Every human who walks this Earth has a guardian angel and our pets have them too. So say the scholars of the afterlife, who believe that we should all find comfort in the fact that there are heavenly figures on hand to support and protect us. While it might sound outlandish, eyewitnesses accounts, as well as photographic evidence, make the argument impossible to ignore.

The Catholic Church is in no doubt as to the existence of angels. Pope Francis not long ago told his global congregation:

The doctrine of angels is not fantasist. No, it's reality. How often have we heard "I should do this, I should not do this, that's not right, be careful..." So often! It is the voice of our traveling companion. Ask yourselves, "How is my relationship with my guardian angel? Do I listen to him? Do I say good morning to him? Do I ask him to watch over me when I sleep?" No-one journeys alone and no-one should think that they are alone.

One person who agrees with this more than most is New Yorker Rose Benvenuto, 77, whose experience is one of the most prominent of claimed encounters with a guardian angel. In 1988 Rose, then 48, veered off her car to avoid a stray dog, smashing into a barrier. Her vehicle was a twisted pile of metal and glass. Rose, with no recollection of the incident, found herself standing beside it, having suffered not as much of a scratch. Rose said that it was a miracle that she survived.
When Sharon Boo of the Pawling Fire Department took official photographs of the carnage, a ghostly, angel-like figure was seen hovering near the wreck. Sharon explained, "I have taken hundreds and hundreds of photographs and I have never come across anything like this".
"I feel she had an Angel looking over her shoulder", she added.

Recently, in the United Kingdom, Donna Ferguson described how the voice of her guardian angel saved her life after she began hemorrhaging blood following childbirth at a hospital in Lisburn, in 1998. Donna, then 29, described the strange voice she had heard during her divine intervention:

"Wake up, wake up!" it kept saying, softly. It was told to press the alarm. I told the doctor that someone had woken me, although I couldn't tell if it was a woman's or a man's voice, and he said it must have been my guardian angel, because if I'd lost much more blood, I wouldn't have survived.

In 2013, car crash victim Katie Lentz, 22, was left thanking a "guardian angel" who helped her in her hour of need.
Katie's green Mercedes was reduced to a tangled pile of twisted metal after a drunk driver hit her head-on in a collision in Illinois, USA. Medics worked for an hour to try and free her from the carnage as she drifted in and out of consciousness. As all hope seemed lost, a mysterious priest suddenly appeared to pray for her. Within minutes Katie was being transported to the hospital while the man of the cloth, disappeared into the night, leaving policemen scratching their heads.
Katie, who suffered a dozen broken bones in her legs and ribs, is convinced that someone was watching over her - an old unseen friend.
Jeremiah See, a stunned member of the New London Fire Department, told reporters, "I think that this time I've actually witnessed a guardian angel at work".

It is not just people who get supernatural companions. Our dogs and cats do, too!
London-based spiritual expert Diana Cooper says:

Dogs have two guardian angels as opposed to the one humans are assigned. I think it's because they need more guidance than us. When you want your dog to come to you don't scold it if it runs away. Instead try to open your heart and visualize loving pink light pouring from it. Then it will want to return to you.

Internationally known actor John Geiger has been investigating the phenomenon for years and believes that it remains a great mystery.
He said:

The stories are always similar - that there's a sense of another being, a presence very vividly. There is never any fear or panic when this being appears. There is just a sense of calm, peace and a sense of benevolence, a sense that there's something good there, something that will help them.
