🌿 Why is it good to be vegetarian 🌿steemCreated with Sketch.

Many people may ask vegetarians – why to bother changing your lifestyle and going against the status quo, while it’s easier just to do what most people are doing.

Here are some of my reasons.

  • You get to explore a lot of new dishes.

Living without animal products doesn’t mean getting deprived of something. It means that you now can dive into the world of more than a THOUSAND of edible plants. Can you imagine that number? Plants come in so many varieties, sizes, colors, tastes, textures and nutritional values. And there are literally limitless ways to cook them! You don’t get to be restricted only by your national cuisine – you have the whole realm of traditional plant-based dishes from Latin America, Africa, India, China, South East Asia, Europe and so so on. You can be either cooking them on your own, or have weekly parties at different national cuisine restaurants. You may end up finding unexpectedly delicious plants you could have never thought of!

  • You improve your health and increase life-span.

Now you can get rid of all the cholesterol, saturated fat, hormones, antibiotics and potentially carcinogenic elements once and for all, decreasing your overall chance of getting most of modern chronic and even fatal diseases (check out the book called “How not to die” by Dr M.Greger for more info and scientific evidence). At the same time, you increase your intake of antioxidants and vitamins. And don’t worry about protein – all kinds of legumes contain everything you need, that you used to get from meat (protein, iron, zinc, vitamins, etc, MINUS all the nasty stuff mentioned above) .

  • You become part of the future society.

The humankind is developing not only in science and technology, but also in its morals. If we continue to follow the same trajectory, it’s inevitable that we’re going to take sentient beings (other than humans) into our moral consideration as well. There is no more need to kill animals for survival in our modern world, abundant with all the nutritious plants available to us at any time. So there are four main reasons left for people to continue consuming meat: Traditions, Taste, Convenience and Disinformation about nutrition.

Tradition doesn’t always mean something good. Having slaves, abusing women, racial discrimination also used to be a part of tradition, which people were also holding so strongly to. We look at most of the traditional practices of the past as barbaric. The same thing our ancestors will think about our killing of animals just for the taste and convenience.
That’s enough for now, I hope your understanding of some “stange people” around you has increased at least a little, and you may have some new perspective from this post :)

Thank you for the information. I have been thinking seriously about trying to be vegetarian for over a year now. I have yet to do it, but I have limited my meat intake considerably. Hopefully, I will get there.

that's awesome! good luck with your journey, keep it up :)

Hey, thank you !

Appreciate it. I guess, my only hold up is figuring out a way to make my favorite recipes vegetarian. I know I can do it, just need to get after it.
