The Stories Behind Birth Flowers 🌸🌺


J A N U A R Y

Carnation

Love, fascination and distinction


Each specific color carnation has it's own meaning - the most powerful of which being pink which symbolizes a mothers undying love.

F E B R U A R Y

Iris

Faith, valor and wisdom



          



The three upright petals on an iris are said to represent the faith, valor and wisdom it symbolises. The iris has also become the national symbol of the French, the fleur-de-list.



Violet

Watchfulness, loyalty and faithfulness









As well as the positive symbolism of violets, it is said that if you dream of a violet this is a promise of advancement in life!

Daffodil


Rebirth and new beginnings


A gift of daffodils is said to suggest good luck, however, if it is just a single bloom gifted this instead is supposed to foretell misfortune, so take care when giving daffodils as gifts!

A P R I L

Sweet Pea

Delicate and blissful pleasure



          



The modern sweet pea little resembles the original flower due to hybridlisation after it's discovery in the 17th century. The flower also symbolises departure.



Daisy

Innocence, loyalty and purity









The daisy also represents a flower that is given between friends, as the symbol of a shared secret that is never to be told.


M A Y

Lily of the Valley


Purity, sweetness and humility


It is perhaps little surprise that the lily of the valley is the birth flower of May, considering the scientific name "majalis" actually means "of or belonging to May".

J U N E

Rose


Love and passion


Similar to the carnation, each color rose has it's own specific symbolism, for example a yellow rose expresses friendship, whereas a purple rose represents love at first sight.
