Our dog had puppies a couple of months ago, We found good homes for all of them but I wanted to keep at least 1 or 2.
Cheeta with her new puppies sticking her tongue out at me
At about that time I installed 300' of chainlink fence around our chicken coop to keep them from roaming. And where the coop was close to the new fence I created another area to use as a refuge for smaller chicks or a dog pen.
My idea being that the new puppy could live in the chicken yard at night and protect from predators and earn her keep :-)
So last night after dark Johana took them down and locked them in for the night tying the outer gate shut. Because they have rattled my poorly designed latch loose and escaped before.
6' fence surrounding the coop & 2 large plum trees that the chickens sleep at night in
Last night after I went to bed Johana was outside and see's Cheeta running across the yard, Calles her over and ties her up on the porch for the night. Goes and gets the puppy and brings her up too.
This morning we went to see how she got out...But everything is normal? Gate tied shut and no evidence she found her way under the fence or over the fence, as you can see in the picture I put the tied end up on the fence so chickens can't sit up there. And they are not very strong so would be bent over if something or someone climbed over the top.
Do You have any idea how she got out? maybe you have a tricky dog yourself?
Cheeta is a good jumper...But 6' is unreasonable for anything but a deer or something similar without atleast bending the ties on top.
We will try again tonight to see, and if another escape happens...not sure what I'll do. Maybe tie her inside and let the puppy roam. Her barking will alert of any trouble.
When I was a teen working with a friend, he used to put his dog in the house for the day. But every night we came home he was in the yard waiting for us? So he tried the basement...Same results?
On Sunday we did the same routine but didn't work and sat out back drinking. This dog had found at the top of the basement wall some loose foundation ( Old House ) from on top a bench and climbed out under the porch to get out LOL
We heard some grunting and groaning then some scuffling and out he came! He even puched the rocks back into the hole he came out!
Crazy but true, So we cemented it shut and all was good :-)
Here you go!

Incredible ! But our fence has no top bar and I put the twisted side up, so There would be evidence of something more than a few pounds going over it.
She's in heat now and sleeps in the house at night, So I'll try again when that's done. We Don't need another batch of puppies right now :-)
