What I Learned from Buying Tickets to 4 Red Rocks Concerts

Tonight, I'm seeing the Fleet Foxes at Red Rocks tonight, my fourth show this season at the iconic outdoor venue.

If you're unfamiliar with Red Rocks amphitheater, it's one of the best places to see a concert outside. The venue is right between an epic rock formation, located in the foothills about 10 miles west of Denver.

I've had some incredible experiences at this venue, as it's a special experience seeing your favorite artist in such a unique setting. Here's us at a Father John Misty show in August, pardon the quality:

But I've noticed something rather annoying about the process of going to shows. For all of the shows we've bought tickets for, the price was dramatically cheaper on resale sites. For the Fleet Foxes show we are seeing this evening, there are tickets on Stub Hub available for $24. Considering we paid $68 a piece, I have to say I feel a bit ripped off from the process.

Granted, I'm a huge Fleet Foxes fan, and it was worth it to secure a ticket early on, but I could also use that extra $44 in my pocket.

As a general rule, if a show isn't going to be insanely popular, waiting to purchase is the best bet

Certain insanely popular shows won't work for waiting, as the Gorillaz show last night had tickets selling for $150-200. However, in general, you can expect to pay significantly less if you wait to purchase a week prior to the show. Many people buy tickets and decide not to go for one reason or another.

Strategic concert purchasing could have netted me an additional 3 red rocks shows for the same price. Unless I'm desperate to do anything possible to see the band, I think waiting is the answer.

The place for those kind of concerts seems very good. Blessings and greetings.

Thanks, indeed it is!
