What Would You Prefer No Heat or No Air Conditioning?

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

It was over a month late this year but here in Toronto Canada Spring has finally sprung this week. It was a long April with instead of showers we received ice storms. I live downtown and was in the epicenter of falling ice. The CN tower for the first time had to be closed for 5 days due to all the ice falling. Police wore hard hats and were blocking off access to the area where I usually walk my dog but I digress.

Now that the heat has started to pickup I'm in the dreaded condo life temperature dead zone. They still have the heating system for the entire building turned. If I wanted to cook myself and my dog alive today that would be a great way to do it. Now we've been told that the air conditioning won't actually be turning on for another few weeks.

I'm not surprised since the building management here is completely out of touch and will hopefully be fired when their contract is up. Every person I've talked to has said if it was them they would prefer the heat be switched to cooling at the beginning of May or end of April. Why? Because we are Canadians and know how to stay warm. We have closets full sweaters blankets and jackets. Staying cool though is a lot harder. As I write this my dog is lying on her side, panting with her tongue hanging out of her mouth from the heat. My mining rig I only run at night now. I can break a sweat in here just from watching TV to intently.

What do you think fellow Steemians? I'm expecting a opposite view possibly from those in warm climates that get cold easily but think I'm in the majority for us northern climate adjusted folks. Enough with heat give me air conditioning! What do you think?

I would prefer no heat👹

I am the same way as you. We are from similar climates though. I am from Ohio so we are sort of like a turd falling from Canada's bottom. I can't stand too much heat. It's so much worse when you are indoors and can't get away. It's not so bad when you are outside with the sun shining and wind blowing. Being stuck inside in the heat really sucks though.

hi @ Contentjunkie ! I am from TURKEY ! Usually he would burn a lot of rain in Turkey in April. Global warming has begun to manifest. In April, the rain never rained any more.

Living in Western PA, we had the same spring...we all blinked and missed it! In my opinion, its easier to cool down than it is to warm up. For example...I can leave my non air conditioned friends house and walk home to my air conditioned house. In between, I will stop at the corner store with air conditioning and grab an ice water for the rest of the walk home. If it were cold outside I wouldn't want to leave the warm apt to go into the cold. If forced to walk in the cold, I'd freeze my ass off and bitch the whole way, where as the walk in the heat is more tolerable and I'd bitch less! So yea, I prefer no air over no heat....Far easier to get cool than to get warm!

I hate being cold. The thermostat is a constant war game in our house. 25 years of marriage, I walk by the thermostat I turn it up, he walks by and turns it down. lol.

What struck me the most is that it sounds like you building can only have one on at a time? That seems odd.

It's a central heating or cooling system in a 60 storey building that is less than 5 years old. I suspect it has to do with all the green energy efficient ways they do it now. This building is top rated for that. They have to turn off the boilers and let them cool down for 3 days then they can enable the cooling system from which all the separate individual unit controlled systems draw.

When heat is not tolerated in heavy heat, heat control is very important because it can not be tolerated too much heat or cooling.

Seriously I dont like both of them :( I prefer autumn or spring when the weather is nice and mild. But if I have to choose, then better cold than hot :)
Enjoy your Weekend :)
