Yesterday was a day people celebrated fathers. I don’t believe in all these man-made days. Just an excuse to party, and on the commercial side, to make a lot of $$$! That’s why I tell my kids not to fuss over me on “mother’s day”. Just appreciate me every day 😊

So we had another family potluck last night. My dad was over the moon. Said every dish served was superb! I’m surprised he didn’t ask for a family photo! 😅

My dad is very superstitious. He makes up his own stuff. Once he refused to have his photo taken because he believed it would shorten his life. Now he is ever ready for the camera!

Occasionally he would let his hair, moustache and beard grow, and grow, and grow (like now 😖). No one knows why but I suspect it’s some pact he’s made with God.

Back in the day when I was a child my dad sure did some crazy stuff. Once when the circus came to town we (5 of us then) drew straws to see who had the frightful task of asking him if we could go. He locked us out of the house that night. I can’t remember how long we were left out there but thank God we had each other!

When one of my sisters burned her finger with a candle and cried frantically my dad put his forearm over a glass with a candle in it to show that it doesn’t hurt. Sorry for the language but WTF! He ended up with a huge boil and my sister’s finger still hurt! 🙄

He frequented the “prestigious” Klang Club (only club in town) after work and would usually come home late at night. Before coming home he would call us to take orders for supper. It would usually be fillet steak with grilled banana. So yummy! So we would be having steak for supper in the middle of the night (we have to wake up at 6am the next day for school).

On the eve of the new year he would take us to Port Klang to watch the ships and wait for them to sound their horns at midnight. It was so cool. I wonder if they still do that.

When the Tarzan series was showing in the cinema he took the whole family every single night. And we had the best seats and free snacks because he and the manager of the cinema were buddies 😊

He always reminded us that the word “enjoy” was not in our dictionary. We only get to enjoy when we start working and earn the right to enjoy ... or when he decides to take us shopping, and buy us toys 😁

Have you guys heard of the Chopper bike? We’d only seen them in magazines. One day he surprised us with 2 Choppers, one blue and the other yellow! We were the only ones in town who owned Choppers!

When I got my driver’s license I had to drive my sister to night class. My estimation was so so bad I made a big scratch/dent in the door. When my dad saw it he told me not to worry about it, it was just a little scratch.

When he became president of the Klang club he did some pretty cool things. He made it a family club. We had free movies on Sunday mornings and he had 2 swimming pools built.

I have saved the best for last. Brace yourselves.

One night he brought the whole family to the club for dinner. And we found out that after dinner there was going to be a special performance by the famous Rose Chan! Who’s that? OMG! She was the most famous striptease in Malaysia! Can you believe I watched Rose Chan perform when I was a kid?! Pengsan! 😂

Crazy as he was and is I wouldn’t trade him for the world! He loves his family to bits and (I’m not joking) would sacrifice his life for us. I love you dad! And HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! ❤️

Ah Kong certainly is a very unique man. Sure loved to talk with people.
Didn't know that they showed TV series in cinemas back in the day.

Not TV series! Series of Tarzan movies starring Johnny Weissmuller 😂
