My thought processes have changed since I had my blood clot a few years ago. I didn't know how close I had come to saying hello to the grim reaper. This event as the doctors call it changed me and I have no time for idiots anymore. They are easy to spot as they talk a lot, but don't do much. Most companies have them and once you start observing there are more idiots than workers.
I went back to work and i changed my approach. No more covering and doing the work of 3 or 4 people because they weren't capable. If you were hired for a particular role you did it or you would be replaced. In the past I would get stressed and cover for others, fixing their mistakes.
Thinking back I learnt so many different roles because I hated things done incorrectly. Mistakes cost time and money and at the end of the day it affects company profits. I think I may have been taken advantage of to some extent as I used to clean up and make things right again. The only job I hadn't done is that of the accountant. By doing and learning everything myself it kept me busy whilst I noticed others always had spare time for coffee chats and long lunch breaks.
I would beat around the bush if someone had done something wrong and maybe that was the wrong approach.Last year one of the staff members who I was seriously considering replacing asked me what i thought of his work standards. I told him the truth and he burst into tears. Everyone is so used to being told what they want to hear and I can't do that. I wasn't expecting the tears though as that threw me a bit ,but he needed to know. Why ask the question if you work is substandard?
I think my thought processes changed so much that I see things much differently than others do. Working for myself will not put me in these situations again where I have to work with people who are not up to doing the tasks at hand. I have realised I need to concentrate on what I am good at and to caiptalise on that. The health scare woke me up from someone who would worry about others first and myself second.I am the most unselfish person there is and will give you anything if I have it.
I am now looking forward to the end of next week as we now have the keys for the warehouse and everything is moving forward. I know I have the skills and knowledge to run this business the right way and honestly can't wait. It is nervous and exciting what lays ahead and it will be the medicine that I need to achieve my goals in life.
I wish you success. A high work ethic person like you deserves to succeed.

Thanks Markku. I will do whatever it takes and do things right. It has been a long road traveled so far and i am not going to mess this up. I see the potential and opportunity in front of me and you just get that feeling that this is the one. This is so different to everything I have been involved with before as this is a proper business and is making money already.

I can fully understand what you mean and you're right. I'm telling you from experience, unfortunately. When you are in a situation where you have to evaluate your life, you cut out all that is not good and concentrate on what is good and right. Covering for others and doing their work leads to more negligence and incompetence.
They need to learn to do things right and do the work they are paid for. Life is short.

Now that's a title and a message I can get behind. I scrolled passed a few dozen posts this am in my crypto n coffee chill mode before being grabbed by your post.
We are never doing anyone any favours by enabling them to be complacent in their poor performances.
I never will forget being a pretty damn decent guitarist as a 15 year old and playing for some peers that usually ended up telling me how awesome I was only to have one 13 year old stoner kid say, "I mean you're alright, keep practicing".
I had never been given this response and I often wonder if everyone in my circle had just been yes men and high praisers how much I'd have been doomed to mediocrity. From that pivotal insignificant point I was determined to never give anyone room to be more critical than myself. This perspective and also knowing there will always be someone much better at whatever you do is critical to being proficient. Not even great or good just good enough, because with the right overall package that's always all that's required to be worth keeping around...
