The impact of neanderthal genes on humanity is more than we previously thought

They discovered that many traits besides immunity are effected by the Neanderthal DNA. In fact they found genes associated with traits such as sleep patterns, skin color, hair color, and perhaps more which we don't yet understand. The current theory is that humans and Neanderthal interbred many thousands of years ago. As a result of this ancient interbreeding it is now the case that humanity has Neanderthal genes dispersed.

This is a beautiful development. If human bred with Neanderthal to get all these wonderful genes, I wonder what we got from other species like Java man and homo habilis.
BTW, any idea what happened to other species of humans? Many claim that we obliterated them due to competition but I don't want to believe this.
Is there any research on finding any hidden species of humans?
