The most difficult time to be in a relationship as a guy is in your early twenties. The period when you are stuck in a limbo, trying to figure yourself out, who you want to be and all that.
At this age, it’s hard to ask money from your parents, considering your dad will always remind you of how self sufficient he was at your age. You’re basically left with anything that comes from them willingly.
To compound your “woes”, you have a girlfriend whom you love so much, she’s 23 and you’re a year older.
You want to be “the man,” but you’re frustrated at your inability to provide for her.
I mean, where is the money?

You’re still hustling, waiting for pepper to rest, putting your hands into everything hoping to hit a goldmine.
All of a sudden, she starts acting out and showing attitude. Your calls are barely picked, and when they are, she gives you answers a few syllables away from Morse Code- Yes, No, Maybe, Kk- before she cuts the call to “close the Fridge”.
One day, she finally hits you with the question ‘where is this relationship heading to?’ You’re not sure of where your own life is heading to, talk less of relationship.
Then, like a tornado, she drops it. She says she met a guy that wants to marry her, she’s 23 and “age is not on her side.” Your insides are burning, in your heart you’re sure you’ll soon blow, 2/3 years tops, can’t she wait?!
You play the good guy and asks if she loves him, she murmurs about how he treats her well. The die is cast, there is nothing you can do.
A week later, she sends you a wedding invitation; you realize you’ve been played. While you were getting monotones, someone was getting epistles.
You go to the wedding, watching the love of your life say ‘I do’ to the bald guy with the nice beard.

Your phone beeps at the reception, GTB has deducted N360 SMS charges, your balance is N3640, and your last 4k has turned to 3k.
6Years later, you’re 30 now. Congratulations, you’ve finally made it. You’re rich as you hoped, and you've become one of the biggest boys in town.
You attend a wedding; your suit is nicer than that of the groom plus his groomsmen.
The bridal train passes by, you spot one, she make sense die! You walk up to her, chat her up, get her digits and you leave.
She’s 23, ready for marriage. Three months down the line, you’re hitting at rings as you walk through the jewelry store in Dubai. You spend all your time chatting with her; she’s lively, and bears all to you.
And somewhere else, a 24 year old boy still waiting for pepper to rest is wondering why his girlfriend is becoming distant these days. Wondering why he is getting one-word-answers, why she is cutting his calls to “close the window.”
You propose, a few minutes later, she’s asking the 24 year old “where is our relationship heading?”
You marry her, and the cycle continues.....
