Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow my posts.
Ngorongoro crater is a unique ecosystem with one of the highest densities of lions anywhere else in the world.
I've known about this place since I was very young, growing up watching wildlife documentaries about lions and their habitats.
We started our journey off in the town of Arusha which is a typical overcrowded, polluted, and chaotic African city. As we sat in traffic trying to get out of the town I felt suffocated by the fumes.
It was a relief to finally get to the entrance of the Ngorongoro Conservation area.
We still had a long climb to get up to the rim of the crater and we found ourselves driving through mist covered Masaai villages like the one I posted earlier on dTube.
It was a real insight to see how this wise and fascinating tribe live in such a remote place.
After a full day travelling we finally arrived at our Asilia eco lodge perched on the rim of the crater.
The temperature outside was freezing - something you wouldn't normally expect from an African Safari. As we stepped into the lounge area of the lodge we were warmly welcomed by a roaring fire.
The rooms were incredibly cosy and luxurious and this was matched by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff.
We were woken up the next morning with a pot of freshly brewed Tanzanian coffee and got ready for our first adventure inside the actual crater itself...
