After yesterdays trip to the perfectly blue caves of the Gruta do Lago Azul we all wanted to visit somewhere where we could get back into the water. Of course Bonito offers lots of opportunities for this.

We decided to go underwater cave diving in Abismo. To get into the cave required abseiling down 70 metres. You are immediately struck by the size of the cave as it opens out.

Once in the cave the you notice the weird and eery atmosphere, an almost alien structure of stalactites and stalagmites.

The pool itself is 80 metres deep. In this environment you can hear a pin drop.

It was about ten years since I'd taken my open water PADI course and to be quite honest I couldn't really remember what I was doing. Once in the cave we got into our kit and descended into the water. At the start I couldn't get the hang of the buoyancy but after a while I got used to it. There were animal bones and all sorts of weird things at the bottom of the cave.

Underwater cave diving is incredibly sketchy! It's different to the coral reef dives I've done in the past because it's so incredibly dark.

After a half day in the cave we did a tour on a dinghy before abseiling back out.

That looks amazing! I'd love to do that one day

Me too. I wish I win the lottery soon! lol

if there is a will there is a way...

I agree with you

Wow! Amazing!

Wow! This looks amazing, thank you for sharing your adventure with us. Everything about this seems sketchy to me (obviously it isn't). Pretty amazing to see what lies beneath the surface of our Earth. I see the man made dock/platform there...is this a place others frequent often, or are their guides that take groups of people down for a dive? Also I would imagine the water is pretty cold down there!

Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Looks like an awesome place to explore, although it does require some advanced skills. I'd love to go but it would be hard to bring the kids and we always travel as a family. Guess it will have to wait till the kids are bigger.

Wow this looking so amazing and a little bit scary as well :) I love diving and I can imagine it completely different to reef diving. Last time I was diving in Tip of Borneo. Beautiful as well <3

wow amazing picture and very beautiful @dannystravels. i like it so much. i think you are great and pro photographer. i believe u have many great posting about photography with best shot and correct angle, waiting for latest post. Let's waking to my blog I have some beutiful photos on my wall.

What you're doing is amazing Danny. I'm really curious, does Steem fund your travels? I would love to do something similar, and bitcoin is worth double in some parts of South America. ;)

really? why is it worth double?
just followed u, please follow back

Well in Argentina for instance, the government has restrictions on sending or taking money out of the country. So bitcoin is very useful for such purposes. The last I checked you can sell your bitcoin for a lot more over there, for the local currency of course.

so ppl with bitcoin could take a bitcoin holiday and sell up lol

Pretty much! I guess it's like that anyway with currency isn't it, you can go abroad to a poorer country and your money is worth 10x!

awesome

Great content danny! I'm living in Africa through your post. I'll post my great experiences soon over from instagram. Followed and upvoted. Thanks for the good stuff. Hope to see you soon!

واضح انه كان يوم مميز و رائع

wow what an awesome adventure :)
Must have been a breathtaking experience ;)
Enjoy your day! :)

Abismo Anhumas!! SO NICE! I was in Bonito a couple months ago, an amazing place, been working on a hostel and doing some tours, like this on Rio Da Prata, left the Abismo for the next time.

No matter how many steem someone can pay me, I would never go in a place like that...scaryyyy

amazing cave nice thanks

I like it

Wow fantastic! I am a former PADI diver, (1985) and these fantastic photographs awoke in me very beautiful memories. Thank you very much for sharing.

Why did you stop diving?

Well At that time I used to live in Guatemala, a very beautiful place. At that time I had the time, today my work in Mexico, where I was born, demands a lot of time...perhaps someday...

I hope so

Man that's awesome! Best dive I ever did was a cave in Mexico, but we didn't have to abseil in. Really cool!

Just followed you, please follow back. great post, that cave is amazing

Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. The cave formations are beautiful and I'm sure the diving was enough to get your heart pumping! What is next?

That's one of the things I didn't do when I was there. I mentioned you in my last post, because you add great value to steemit :)

Looks pretty creepy!! the darkness would freak me out - could be anything down there.... What was the weirdest thing you saw and would you recommend it?

What an amazing experience.

Wow wow! You're really having an adventurous time. The abseiling must have been dizzying, I know it would be for me. Maybe not for you since you're used to it.

Looking at the pictures, I can almost feel the Serene and alien-like atmosphere you described. It must have felt like a world away from our world.

Great post!

Hope you having a great time traveling and discovering the caves.

Amaazing, thanks for sharing, will check out Bonito for sure! In Mexico and Belize we visited many such caves (cenotes)... Will write about it after my Cuba series ;) Enjoy every minute travelling!

Wow, that is really exciting! I would be scared but willing to try if given the opportunity. What was the water temp?

Definitely following to see your adventures! Way to live :)

Wow you are quiet the adventurer and very brave!!.. I am too nervous a person, but somewhere there, I know that I would feel such a great achievement if I was just to put the nerves to one side and live a little.
Thank you for sharing such a great post with us :)

This is super cool! My grandpa used to dive in caves and sink holes in Florida.

Woooow!
You must have had real fun @dannystravels
...Enjoyed your content.

..Followed! and pls do stay in touch

wow

Stunning 😮

Wow! That looks soo amazing!

nice job!! upvoted and I'm going to follow you ;)

Wow, this is honestly incredible! makes we want to drop everything today and travel the globe.

Wow- thanks for sharing these amazing photos. Cave diving is something I always wanted to do, but the only thing close to diving I've done is snorkeling in Koh Phangan, Thailand. Haad Rin gets a lot of hype from full moon parties, but haad Yao beach is quieter and also beautiful.

Lovely Place ...

Super dope

Great Blog! Love sinkholes! We went to a bunch in Mexico!

This seems so cool. I have never been to that sort of caves but I would love to go.

This is amazing. Definitely on my bucketlist! I loved the video

Brooooo @dannystravels!! the last time I was there, we are not allowed to dive! I need to go back.
IMG_1303.JPG

This looks amazing. I would love to do this one day.

Congratulations @dannystravels

You took 28 place in my Top 100 of posts

to be honest, cave diving with open water certification shouldnt be allowed. Have seem so many accidents in my life and I still see dive centers be very carefree. but damn what a nice dive!

Very cool write-up. I love getting into caves. Take a look at my video of a cave dive I did in central Texas - https://steemit.com/scuba/@liquidtravel/cave-diving-in-jacob-s-well-texas
