Apple is planning to arrange a single set of application that will work equally across on all its devices i.e. iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
From one year from now, developers will design applications in such a way that can be operated with touch, mouse, and trackpad effectively without rolling out any prominent changes on every platform.
Presently developers need to plan two indistinguishable applications, one for Mac OS and other for iOS, which is a great deal of work. Further it is indicated that same applications for different platforms aren't updated at the same time with Mac OS apps dropping back against iOS apps in updates.
By creating this single application these problems will be resolved for all devices "Mac OS, iPhones, and iPads" that will get the new features and updates at the same time.
Apple is by all accounts following Microsoft in the updates, which created Windows OS for their phones, to bring users of both desktop and mobile closer. It didn't work out so well as neither the developers nor the clients were fulfilled.
In the same way Google has built up the Chrome OS to bring desktop and mobile apps somewhat closer and furnish users with more familiar and reasonable interface.
We have to wait to see if Apple will merge iOS and Mac OS Application Stores or not.
