My Mom's Little Lemon Bush

This is my mom's lemon bush. Look how fruitful it is. You know it was not always fruitful. As a matter of fact it was planted in another place in her backyard.

I helped her put it in a convenient place where it could grow large, but we made a mistake. You know the most convenient place, might actually be the wrong place.

I thought there was enough sunlight in the first place that we put this lemon bush at the time when this lemon bush was even smaller, but nothing really happened and it didn't seem to get larger at all.

When I thought about it, I told my mom that we planted this lemon bush in the wrong place. I told her that there is not much sunlight in this place.

So I asked my mom where else can we put it where it will have a lot of sunlight. Mom decided on the place that where it is now. It wasn't the most convenient place, but there was a lot of sunshine.

So, some years ago I went and dug out the lemon bush and placed it in the place where it is now. Well, the plant started to grow, but no fruit. As a matter of fact it took some more years, then finally we started to see some blossoms.

Well, we all know the blossoms comes before fruit. Then it did have a little fruit. Then the next year there was a little more fruit. Now for the size of this lemon bush it has more fruit than it ever had before.

It is like a lesson in life. Sometimes we are in a convenient place, but exist in the shadows where there is little light. We don't have the light to grow and produce fruit.

We have seen in the natural where the light of the sun on the lemon bush can make the lemon bush produce fruit. Now let us take it in the spiritual.

What is the spiritual light? As it is written, Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12.

So Jesus is the light of the world and the light of life. Remember how bright that light can be? Remember Saul on the way to Damascus when Jesus came to him?

As it is written when Paul tells his story, And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. Acts 22:6.

Yes, Jesus is a great light. This light of Jesus changed Saul to Paul. From where Saul was a friend to the world, but then changed to the enemy of the world after his experience with Jesus on the way to Damascus, to the point where they wanted to kill Paul, because of how he boldly preached Jesus.

Of course the believers are not of the world. Jesus said, They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. John 17:16.

Then there are those that will love the darkness more than the light. As it is written, And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19.

Of course if we stay in darkness, not recognizing that our deeds were evil, then how can we produce the fruit that the Father looks for in us?

What is the fruit of the spirit? As it is written, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23.

So let us recognize that our deeds were evil and that we need to repent, accept Jesus and do the will of the Father.

In doing so we will remain in the light of the world and we will produce our spiritual fruit, just as mom's lemon bush is producing it's natural fruit as it remains in the light of the sun.
