A story from my years as being an operator. Oh yes, there are stories I can tell.

One time a customer called in and was frantic. "Help, I need the number of the Post Office," says the customer after introductory pleasantries. "I just found out that when I went to my bank I had my mail in my hands. I thought I was holding my check book with some checks to deposit. I must have thrown my check book and checks in the mail box." I said, "Yes, ma'am I'll get you that number right away."

I always try to learn from my past customers. So when I go to the Post Office or Post Box, I always make sure only mail is in my hands. No keys, check book, money or any other thing. I only hold mail in my hands when I put it in the box. This is not the time to multitask.

Maybe I'll come up with more operator stories in the future.

I did something very similar to this. I threw my keys in the mail box with my mail. Thank goodness I had spare keys. And just like you said, "I only hold mail in my hands when I put it in the box." Lesson learned...the hard way! :)

Yes, I had the ones with the keys also, but the story with the check book and checks takes the cake. Good for you that you had extra keys.

When I was little I had a hand full of popcorn and another of potato bugs. Guess which one went into my mouth? :/

Oh. I guess you put in your mouth the ones with the most protein.

Oh yes.... wretched lol

Oh I could so see myself doing this!

It happens more times than you think with my customers over the years. Only this one took the cake with those checks and checkbook thrown in the mail box. I have to consciously put my keys in my pocket and look at my mail and I say, Just mail in my hands.
