With the new year just ticked over it's always important to reflect on the year just gone and figure out what the major lessons that were learned are.
I had an absolute roller coaster of a year with more lessons than I could poke a stick at, and here are some of them.
I hope people can have some key takeaways and things to look out for on their journeys and learn from my mistakes.
Here they are
- Have a plan and stick to it.
When I first start the entrepreneurial journey, I didn't have much of plan. I had focus and drive but without a plan of action, I was chasing a dream without really knowing where I was going.
I wanted to do a billion and one different things, and suffered from shiny object syndrome big time.
- Due diligence is beyond important.
Being too trusting and impatient was a huge downfall for me. I trusted too many people I shouldn't have and ending up spending money I didn't have in order to pursue a new career path. Doing my due diligence on the programs that I signed up for could have saved me a lot of time, money, disappointment and other issues.
- Don't continually do things that don't align with your values.
Figuring out our values is important, and once we have figured them out, it's important that we live true to them, as when we don't live true to our values, we run the risk of losing our sense of self. I experienced this first hand and wouldn't with it on anyone.
I did a video of this 2 weeks ago, so give that a watch if you're someone who is in a similar position and wanting to know how to get out of that seemingly never ending funk.
- Surround yourself with the right people.
The environment we live and work in is beyond important. This includes the people we associate with regularly.
A very large percentage of people are quite negative and their emotions and energy can rub off on to us.
- Do what must be done.
For a long time I didn't want to get a job, because I didn't want to go back to working for someone else, but I kind of had to, and furthermore, had to accept this fact.
It took me a while to accept this and whilst I was resisting my situation so hard, this caused me no end of grief also.
- Enjoy the journey
If we're doing something or going about something in a certain way that is really not enjoyable for us, it's important that we stop instantly. This is something I didn't do for the longest time and boy, did it cause me a lot of trouble.
Enjoying the journey is paramount and if we don't enjoy the journey, we are likely not to see the success that we are chasing.
I hope you have enjoyed this post.
Have a great 2018 and take lots of care.
