Last weekend I went to a wedding in Taipei. The groom is an old friend of my wife. I have not attended any wedding for quite a while because almost everyone around us that wants and is able to get married does so already. So, we left our kid to grannies and tried to enjoy this rare opportunity to witness the creation of a new family.ย
Weddings in Taiwan nowadays are quite simplified as compared to decades ago. The main part of the wedding is the banquet, where hundreds of relatives and friends from both sides of the bride and groom come to celebrate together. The banquet is actually not complicated for guest - give your wedding gift money (red envelope), sit and watch the ceremony, listen to greeting speeches, watch the show if there is any, get some gifts from the newlyweds if any, EAT, have fun and grab some sweets before you say goodbyes ... That's it! But it is not so easy for the bride and groom! I know since we had been there and done that - no time to eat, a lot of preparation before it all begins (weeks, days before that day and particularly on that day), change two to four times of clothing for the bride, toast to All tables of guests during the banquet, see all the guests off when the party is about to end ... You will have no time to really enjoy your own wedding since things keep coming at you and you see a lot of good friends here but you only have like 10 seconds talking to him/her...ย

Before It All Begins - Reception and the waiting
Look Around - Table, Gifts, and the Setup
Sometimes they will prepare some small gifts for all the guests... and a globally famous industry in Taiwan is the wedding photography services (ask @rea, she came here to enjoy this too! haha), so every couple will have a small decorated table showing their photos and they will select some to have them printed as small cards as gifts to you.ย
Here they come !ย
They show their specially made photos on big screens before the banquet like movie stars. After a long wait, finally the couple will enter the venue with their wedding dresses and begin the ceremony ... music, wedding crackers, flower girls and ring bearer ... it's their moment of life!
The Entertainment
This couple hired a ballon man to provide fun for small guests! It was so popular that only half the demand was met. We were lucky to get one for our kid at home :). Also, the restaurant provided an instant photo machine there too!ย

The Feast
Okay, we are here to eat. That's the bottom line. LOL.... Traditionally, a typical feast will have sweets, assorted cold platter, all kinds of sea foods (this is regarded as great treat here), meat and vegetables, chicken soup, specially made rice, fruits and desserts ... Enjoy!
The Music
At this banquet, they let some close family friends sing (like karaoke) on stage. They also have a professional band and wedding singer to really let us enjoy... Music keeps the whole thing together... Wonderful... ย

I just joined Steemit and this was the first post I came across and what an awesome first impression!! Thanks for sharing your wedding experience...I think Asian-style weddings are a very different experience to Western ones and focus on many, many courses of food - not a bad thing at all :)

The wedding looked fantastic. For some reason it kinda reminded me of a convention.
The food looked like the BOMB. I have got to get me a Taiwanese friend.....just so I can go to a wedding like this for the food LOL. The desserts look super tasty and plus I'm a sucker for sweets.
I've never heard of having a balloon man for a wedding, but that's an awesome idea for the kids to have fun. Oh and karaoke looks like it would be sooo much fun and definitely funny because I know my family can't sing. This post is giving me a lot of ideas for when I get married.

I think you will hardly find a straight foreign guy, who visited Taiwan and wasn't impressed by the beauty and the charms of the female population. Taiwan is loaded with beautiful young women, that would make you fall for them instantly. It sounds broad and subjective you may say, but I would sign this statement any time. Once you visit, you will agree with me. You can argue about what real beauty is, but young women in Taiwan place great importance on how they look and how they carry themselves. Dressing tastefully, being graceful and polite, acting cute, a little sexy, but still remaining soft, sometimes even docile, are some of the social norms Taiwanese girls face, when they are growing into young women. And that has a certain indefinable charm that most non-Taiwanese men can't resist. I have to say I am one of them.
It's no wonder that many Taiwanese girls date foreigners, especially White guys, which is according to my subjective impression the most common combination in interracial relationships here. There is a certain mutual attraction, which would be an interesting topic for another post, so I won't go into that here. What oftentimes starts as a crush or romance, becomes deep love and eventually a decision has to be made: To marry and not to marry? And most of the time the answer is... marry!
If you are one of these foreign guys thinking about marrying a Taiwanese girl, this is the right post for you. I will tell you what to expect and what kind of organizational skills you will need to have in order to plan and pull through a Taiwanese wedding. I have so far been on 6 weddings in Taiwan and one of them was my own. In fact, it ended just yesterday, so I'm still very deeply involved in this topic. I will definitely need few weeks to shift my mind on other things, because you can't just erase few months of stressful planning and organizing something that is not really about you... but let's get back to the start.
So you've met the cutest girl in the world and she's from Taiwan, a country you have not really known well before, but suddenly you've become very interested. You Google information and of course come to my blog and see how beautiful it is here and you just can't resist dreaming about moving here and living happily ever after with your Taiwanese sweetheart. And after you make the decision to settle here for her, you will need to marry. At first you can register, to get the legal documentation (Alien Residence Certificate, read more in Chinese here), so they don't send you home, after your tourist visa expires. But right after that, you will need to start organizing the wedding. And that's the part where I'd like to share my experience with you and give you useful tips.

Can't say I agree with you but I respect your opinions. However, from my own casual observations, there are actually many trashy foreign people here. They, mostly males, are losers back where they come from and come here with a hope to be someone more popular just because of their skin color. Well, unfortunately, sometimes they do succeed.
That of course does not apply to many many great people from abroad. I welcome this kind of people with all my heart.
