Child Abuse disgusts me!! It can take many forms. I want to write a series of articles raising awareness of child abuse.

Child abuse can happen anywhere that a child goes. This means it may happen in the child's home, at a friend's home, at school, at any clubs or social activities the child takes part in and at any time and anywhere in the world. The opportunities for abusers are innumerable.

Here are the four main categories of child abuse:

• Physical Abuse

• Sexual Abuse

• Psychological and Emotional Abuse

• Neglect

Today, I will write about Physical Abuse.

Physical Abuse of a Child

Physical abuse occurs when an adult inflicts physical aggression on a child. When the aggression occurs between children, it is bullying.

Physical abuse can mean injuries both minor and life-threatening but even a 'smack' can be considered to be child abuse. Treating a child roughly is also abuse because of what it can lead to.

In many countries, the authorities and medical establishments have their suspicions of abuse aroused by unexplained injuries. This is difficult because it can stop a carer from seeking hospital treatment for the injured child.

It is still legal in many countries for parents to punish their children with a smack or spanking. To my mind, this is unacceptable. If a child drives an adult to smack point then the adult should calmly leave the room or take some similar action. I think the adult is always at fault.
