How to Make the Most of Contact with Children - Part 2

Playing Ghost Busters.

I made a post earlier this week admitting I used to be a cold-hearted bitch. Thank goodness, I've mellowed somewhat now. What made me a nicer person, you might wonder. The answer is CHILDREN!

So, I thought I'd write a series of short articles on how to make the most of contact with children.

Here's a link to Part 1, about encouraging children's creativity.

Children annoy some people. Not everyone instantly appreciates kid talk and crooning over little people. I had a bf who stated openly that he didn't like people who were under 18!

But, supposing something happens to plunge you into the role of carer, maybe only temporarily, you might like a few hints about how to cope.

  • Hint # 2- Ask Children Questions

Children love asking questions. They can drive you mad with stupid queries that are impossible to answer. Don't worry, this is how to cope:

Turn the tables on them!

When the child asks a question, answer it in extreme detail then ask them a question back.

Here's an example:

Child, "Why is that a dog?"

Answer, "Because its mummy and daddy were dogs. Babies are born to be the same kind of creature as their parents. You are a person because your mummy and daddy are people. What do you think that dog likes to eat?"

You may enjoy the guesses the child comes up with. You can keep the questions going and keep them occ=upied for some time.

I hope this helps, haha.
