Its very troubling to see many people still locked into the paradigm of leadership and representative democracy. Ignorant of their inherent constitutional right to direct democracy the masses continue to delegate their authority to professional politicians. This is dangerous because politicians dont represent the will of their constituents, they are typically beholden to big money interests. The stunning part of this is the fact that the money influence in modern politics has been legitimized.
Besides the fact that governments have killed millions of people they ruin and undermine society in many other ways. Bribery, patronage, trading influence, nepotism, cronyism, electoral fraud, embezzlement, kickbacks, organized crime involvement are among ways that politicians obstruct our democracies. The main way that they obstruct our democracies is through perpetuating the false paradigm that their leadership is superior to the will of the people.
Referendums, ballot initiatives and e-petitions are among the tools people can use to veto corrupt politicians. Political parties with direct democracy as part of their platform have emerged. Even mainstream parties could adopt the principle of direct democracy.
"Sheeple on autopilot" is a very good comparison with representative system... I resteem your article, but please use at your future article "directdemocracy" tag...
