The world and mankind has been in constant change since the beginning of our existence. Natural changes in the world have led us to face new challenges. To survive, it was therefore imperative to find new ways and to adapt to this new situation. But never in mankind’s history has our world changed as radically and rapidly as in the last 100 years or even in on generation, what would be 40-50 years. Before that, changes like the industrial revolution meant big steps in our development, but the developments could be followed by everyone. The car was no longer driven by a horse and a tool not by humans, but by a motor or a machine.
However, today's developments have meant that in the shortest time a large part of the people in our technological world can no longer cope. The speed of our technology almost doubles every year and accelerates itself. Previously, when physical labor was replaced by machinery, nowadays mental work can be taken over by machines, too. Developments can be achieved more quickly and will continue to happen in shorter and shorter intervals in the future. However, possible consequences are often not considered. Everything that is possible to be created, will be created, regardless of the impact on humans and the environment. More important than our wellbeeing is how much money it may be worth.
There are many positive achievements, which led to fundamental global decline of poverty and war (even if subjectively a different impression is conveyed to us). On the other hand, however, the other developments and especially the extent of the potential effects outweigh it.
The effects
The destruction of nature is seen in many parts of the world and the effects are felt. Life-threatening natural phenomena accumulate and intensify year after year. Climate change is progressing and the dimensions are basically unknown. The influence of man on this development is fundamentally undeniable and can be noticed more clearly in other areas. One of the examples that is currently omnipresent:
plastics
.Currently we find huge areas in the oceans covered by our plastic waste. Microplastics is not even part of the observation, because here the particles are often invisible to the naked eye. According to general estimates, there will be more (micro) plastics in our waters by 2050 than fish and animals. Effects are not only to be discovered directly on the living organisms, but also lead in some species to infertility in the males, since microplastic in the organism causes estrogen-like effects. As a result, until the middle of the century it is possible that a large proportion of our men became sterile through the supply of microplastics, too.
Similar developments are emerging in other areas like multi-drug resistant bacteria and artificial/ machine intelligence.
The developments
In many areas of our lives, as humans, we have been overtaken by our own creations. The effects can only be reversed through active measures and are driven forward in many areas by large-scale projects and research. This should and must usher in the necessary turnaround to stop and reverse many of the processes that have already been set in motion. But not only big progress has an influence, but also one's own life changes pave the way for this development. Currently we are on a ride on an uncontrolled stream to a vague abyss. Each and every one of us has the opportunity to alter the course a bit.
The changes
This change is already visible in humans. Sustainable topics and the return to ancient knowledge and procedures, especially in the healing practice, are on the rise and no longer meet the existence of a fringe group. Organic markets are in greater demand than ever, and topics relating to environmental protection, health and the bond with nature are found in the media and not only in the social media of individuals. The Influence of each one of us in the life with and among the people and our earth is an elementary component of this movement.
Maybe we are already on the course to the saving shore and we can calmly look forward to arriving as a passenger. Perhaps the technical development with all its unimaginable possibilities can correct the course, but this may be at our expense. Certainly, the earth will recover from our actions, because there is no (also caused by man) disaster nature has not survived. Right now we can still co-determine, which role we will play in this recovery process and also afterwards.
