Wheelchair Diner

in life •  7 years ago

Took the misses out for Sunday dinner. I gave her the option of using her crutches or the wheelchair which we've hired at £83 for the first month. The wife went for the "No you can push me!" option.

Now before I say any more, I wouldn't wish being permanently in a wheelchair on anyone.

We arrived at our local pub come restaurant and I pushed her up the ramp and turned her around so I could hold the door open and back her in. Suddenly a guy LEPT up the stairs and said: "Here you are mate, I'll hold that for you." I pushed the wife to the small podium that you have to wait at for someone to book you a table.

Waitress: "How many?"
Me: "Two please."
Waitress: "This way please."

Stunned, I followed the waitress to a table where she removed one of the chairs and I pushed the wife to the table. I say stunned because there is always a minimum of 30-40 minutes wait and yet, as I say, we were ushered straight in.

Having eaten a very nice meal it was time to leave, as I pushed the wife towards the door a large group of wannabe rugby players parted like Moses parting the sea and the wife and I moved through the bar with ease. Sadly someone had parked close to the car. I plonked the wife in the middle of the carpark and pulled the car out of the space effectively blocking access to the carpark and then, after ushering her into the car I dismantled the wheelchair and popped it in the boot. Nobody even looked upset as they all waited calmly in a line for me to finish.

On our way back home the wife and I both commented on what a nice change it was to have a Sunday dinner out with no hassle. The wife said, "I wonder if we should keep the wheelchair?"

She was only kidding folks, but it did cross my mind too. :-D

Maybe keep it long enough for the wife to push you around one day once she is all healed up.

Pffft I stand more chance of winning the lottery.
