No one is great every day, except maybe Dolly Parton

A friend was having a bad day, and wondering why her employers keep her around. I said it's because she's great on most days, and then said "no one is great every day, except maybe Dolly Parton." Which, to me, in an obvious statement, but I thought maybe I'd elaborate on it.

The first bit is a simple affirmation of truth. No one is at their best all the time. That's just not how "best" works. Of how people work. We all have bad days, and some times, we gotta accept that.

The second part is also a simple affirmation of truth. Dolly Parton is GREAT. She's obviously one of the best country singers of all time, that's not even a question. She was amazing in her iconic role in the film 9 to 5, playing a character who suffers from the same perception biases as she herself has for years.

But did you know she sends 10 million free books to kids EVERY YEAR? I mean, obviously not her personally, but her organization, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library sure does.

Did you know she wrote "I Will Always Love You"? Maybe you did. I'm not saying you didn't, but it's just a part of an amazing songwriting legacy. She's written, by her account, over 3,000 songs. She's a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and won their highest award, the Johnny Mercer Award.

Is Dolly Parton as woke as one would like? Nope. But she's still a powerful positive force in the world.

Next time I’m having a bad day at work I’m absolutely going to think now “be more like Dolly”

I love her! She just makes me happy. I think of Dolly and I think big smiles, honesty, generosity, and an incredible voice. Apparently there's such a thing as Dollywood, which is a resort in Tennessee, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be visiting it later this year. lol! As for your first point, yes, it's important to give ourselves space to have some days be better than others. Great post! :)

Dolly seems like I wonderful soul. We donated to her fund to help those that lost their homes in the Gatlinburg fires. She's very positive and generous.
