Do Bribes Work on Steemit/DTube? How do you feel when someone "Bribes" you?

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

I want to preface this by saying I believe there's a clear distinction between a genuine gift of love, support, reaching out or kindness. I do see gifts being given on here and those are such transactions that it's clear the person sending it wants to communicate a message of healing, support, encouragement or a helping hand. The key difference in my opinion between a genuine gift and a bribe is that bribes are often spams to multiple people and it's the same message over and over again. A gift is personalized. It's to an individual. A bribe is a shotgun shot across the ecosystem hoping to hit a few that will take the guilt trip or feel obliged to give back because of the min "gift of 0.001 Steem/SBD.

So my question is - does it really work? Are these people just wasting their time and money? At least from what I've seen and experienced for myself when I've been sent bribes, it hasn't been very effective. I usually just end up ignoring the message. I have no relationship with the other person, it just feels like a spam, the creator devalues their own content which subsequently leaves me with little to no interest to even click on or look at the link. And I see a lot of other people reacting in the same manner. Maybe I'm seeing isolated incidences, but let me know your opinion on it as well and if you've experienced it.

My other question is - what are alternatives? I know these people are just trying to hustle to get attention. What can they do different to actually GET attention? In my opinion, they can just build actual relationships. Network. Connect with people. It'll probably save them the time and energy and money as well as make the process of and experience of steemit so much more enriching.

As long as it exists, it indicates that it works.

Maybe not with you. Like you said - giving bribe is a shotgun approach. Hundreds of people get the same message and bribe. But few respond and that's how the bribe culture moves ahead.

I too think - the best thing to do is build an actual relationship. Or do correct, moral and effective advertising.

That’s a good point that if it’s still around it must be working to some extend. I guess it’s a decent ratio if you give 0.001 to 100 people and get 1 person to respond with 1, you essentially break even. 100:1 lol

Thanks for the comment

I agree with you, I find it kinda lame. The community is still relatively small and there is a possibility for everyone, no need to beed in my opinion :)

Yeah totally brotha. And it doesn't really work. Lol...some are saying it does work shrug so I don't know. Maybe it does to some extent for people here who just want to try and earn a bit...but you can earn more by actually engaging.

people need to grind more, u know :D

I think that there are those in this community who "have made it" that have a good heart. It is not unheard of for people who have made it in life to have charity. Take for example DRAKE's new song called God's Plan. It makes my heart so happy to see good things being done by people to random strangers. Conversely, there are those who are just looking to up themselves in life, and I think it is clear to distinguish between the two.

Yeah I hear ya. Totally agree. Giving is great. I’ve been raised to give. A good portion of my post-graduate life was spent giving back to communities (orphanages and various shelters). But I just feel like these 0.001 steem spam bribes are not really going anywhere. Have you seen anyone actually responding to them in a positive light?

I shall humbly state my opinion.

Steemit is a platform which rewards such behaviors. Right? I am a newbie myself and currently learning about steemit but that's how it seems to me.

I believe that some individuals will always spam. That's how they gain traffic and attention. We cannot do much about it.

Then there are individuals who do not need to spam because their content is enough to grab attention and they have maintained a stable group of followers.

Let us try to be more understandable.

And as for the spammers, perhaps you can invest more time in crafting your posting skills than spamming others.

Thank you!

Thanks for that dark wisdom!

I read it barbies instead of bribes. I think the cam girls on here are getting old. It makes the platform look bad. Like there is this one girl that just films her self changing clothing.

HAhahaha! You’re just as dyslexic as me! I totally misread words at least 5x a day.

I think I saw that video! I guess some people like that kinda stuff :) lol

lol I am glad other people saw that video. I it just "Hey I am a attractive girl hand me money". If I made a video like that no one would give it a thumb because I am a man.
