I am not sure if any of you here on Steemit have the same issue in your community of dog owners not picking up after their own pets but contacting your Town Center is a good first step to ensure changes are being made. Sometimes they just do not realize there is a problem unless the public inform them. I noticed yesterday when I walked my dog there was a new dog waste bin in the local park. Step one now I am reaching out to the Town to provide our condo building with our own dog waste bin for the front and back of our building.
I am wanting to speak to the appropriate person regarding a "Pilot Dog Waste Program". With Markham growing at a rapid pace and this is only the beginning it has come to my attention that although a lot of dog owners pick up after their pets there is a abundance of people that don't but you only need a few people to leave their dog's business behind for the area to become a mess. For the dog owners that do pick up after their dogs they either have to carry their filled doggy bags around during their walk and eventually take it home to the condo incinerator (which has a organic setting) but who wants to carry around a doggy poop bag. The other alternative is to dump the bags into parks and condominium garbage cans which means the doggy business in not properly recycled but mixed in with general garbage not to mention what a terrible odor comes from the bins in the summer. Also I think it is important to have more by-low 2016-84 signs up in parks and dense population condominium areas so that dog owners are
made aware that there is a by-law in place and a fine will be enforced if you do not pick up after your dog. The signage will help ensure the dog owner is made accountable.
I think we are stuck in the this was THEN and this is NOW situation. I think the City needs to incorporate into the Waste Program and an additional program "Pilot Dog Waste Program" due to the rapid growth and mass development of desired condominium lifestyles. In my research I have found that other city's have actually created Red bins specifically for Dog Poop with the word "Dog Waste" on the bin (these where placed in parks) and are the larger versions of a garbage or paper waste units. They also provided the green bids periodically throughout the community with easy access to the general public as if it is easy for the dog walkers to discard of their dog waste they will pick it up and also the dog waste will be kept separate from garbage cans.
Dogs in a pack are more likely to chase and hunt than a single dog on its own. Two dogs are enough to form a pack.
