You probably get into the habit of talking too fast, so fast in fact that some people have trouble understanding you. This stems from insecurity because you are afraid that if you don't blurt out words in a rapid succession people will stop listening to what you say.. but that cannot be further from the truth.
It is when you this: blurt out words in a rapid succession (which by the way, does not equate to speaking in any way) that people will stop listening to you, you might even annoy them. Think about it, doesn't it annoy you too when somebody is talking way to fast? Then why do you fall victim to the same sin? No worries, I'm here to help, so let's learn how to properly communicate.
To properly communicate, one must learn to slow down, give themselves time to think about what is being said
I guarantee you, your speech will be 100% better if you learn this one simple thing: to slow down while talking. Now I'm not talking about being toooooo sloowwwwwwwwwwww. We don't want to overdo it either.
Easier said than done, however I prepared a little exercise that requires about 5 minutes and recalling some awesome or perhaps shameful moments:
Think about how you talk when you are drunk. Imagine the last time you had one-too-many drinks and auralize how you sounded back then, you might've faced difficulties pronouncing words but nevertheless people listened to you better, even the sober ones.
This doesn't mean you should drink two glasses of whiskey after waking up everyday instead of water, but it's a good exercise to remember what you sounded like and think of it as a starting point. Emulate how you talk while being drunk minus the being drunk part and see how it works for you. If you think you are overdoing it, easy: speed up a bit! Just a little bit though, work in small increments.
Once you get the hang of it, and you see that people start hanging on every word that comes out of your mouth it means you've succeeded! You are now a better talker capable of demanding everyone's attention when you start talking!
