San Francisco Reviews - Del Popolo

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Last night I went to an upscale restaurant in San Francisco called Del Popolo.

When we sat down, the waiter said the deal was all-you-can eat pizza and appetizers for $45, or $60 after tax and gratuity. I had just finished eating 2 subway footlongs, so I wasn't ready to scarf $45 worth of pizza. Still, my girlfriend and the rest of the group got the deal.

They started with a pear, walnut and gorgonzola salad on top of butter lettuce. The pears were decorated with chopped chives.

Next they brought out a seared leek and spicy chutney salad, which went quickly.

Third, they brought out a deep-fried butternut squash on a bed of goat cheese and pomegranate.

The last dish before pizza was one that surprised everyone with something looking like a cross between broccoli, cauliflower, and the Fibonacci sequence that I called 'weird broccoli'.

Then they brought out four different pizzas, each more decadent than the last. One was a standard Margarita pizza with light, fluffly, crispy crust. Next was the sausage with arugula. Then they there was the pepperoni. Finally, they did another take on goat cheese which was lovely.

For desert, they presented a Pana cotta topped with boysenberries and encased with a slight salt layer. This was accompanied by a tart pineapple and coconut sorbet, which we all found repulsive.

Afterwards, we went to Bartlett Hall and got a few fancy drinks:
