“How to Live Wisely”

Two days ago, I was faced with a very interesting question. The question was “which is a better life: the relaxing life with no worries and making a good living or a life where you work hard and have a greater impression on the world and be able to retire more quickly?” This question arose from the parable, “How to Live Wisely,” which tells about a fisherman that lives the relaxing life and does what he loves with ease, and then is asked if he would like to make much more money and make a difference in the world. Although the question was not answered, it is definitely an intriguing concept to think about that is very thought provoking. I think that I personally would like to live how the fisherman has been living his life thus far.
The first reason I would like to live my life in this fashion is because I love relaxing and doing nothing a lot. I know this might make me sound lazy, but that is just what I like to do. Even now, at 18 years old, whenever I am done with my classes I like to go to my room and do things like nap, chill out with friends, and play videogames. Even though this is what I like to do, I never let it get in the way of my priorities. I always make sure to get my work done and workout everyday. Although I still get all my work done, it is because I feel obligated to do it, not because I actually want to.
Another reason I would like to live the same basic life as the fisherman is because it is a near stress-free life. I am a firm believer that life is too brief for people to be constantly worried about something. If I had a hard job with lots of obligations, I would more than likely be stressed out a lot. In addition, it is not medically safe to be endlessly stressed out. Many medical problems can arrive just from being substantially stressed out. These problems include high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and there are an abundance of other medical conditions branching out from stress.
My final reason for my questionable choice is because I would get to spend loads of quality time with my family throughout my entire life. Without a doubt, family is the absolute most important thing on this planet to me. I’ve talked to many older people that are immensely regretful that they basically worked their life away. Hours and hours spent on something all day just to have more money.
In conclusion, the pleasant, peaceful life of the fisherman is the life that I would undoubtedly desire. The relaxing days, the stress-free life, and all the time I’d get to spend with my family are all the rational reasons that I have for wanting to live this awe-inspiring life.
