Does being fast allow you to go that fast?

In the year 2006, after some minor delays, the Bugatti Veyron was launched, named after a French driver Pierre Veyron.
Human beings have always had a thing for speed, wanting to go fast, accelerate beyond a preset mark. The fastest street legal car in the world, that is until the 1600 horse power vehicle is working, comes to fruition.

Don't get me wrong, the thrill of high speed, the rush, the respect and street cred, and of course the chicks, all add to an unending need for speed.
The real question comes thus, is the speed a guarantee of going fast?

Right about now the pitch forks are sharpened, but before then, please be patient as the main idea behind this writing unfolds.
Man is concerned about how fast he can go, but no matter how fast man wants to go, man is limited by laws which somehow allows man to build devices which allow him to go fast, but some how places a limit on how fast he should go.

Speed is a concept created by man to show how fast he can go, but what we do not see is it also tells us how fast we should go.

Is being fast the same as going fast?

Even though the terms sound synonymous to the ears, I assure you they are not. Having the ability to be fast, only gives you a means or mechanism of acquiring the speed.
Actually going fast means you decide to use the mechanism.

It is likened to buying a movie ticket for a movie, it does not necessarily mean you will eventually get to see the movie.
The fastest street legal car, affords you over 430+ km/h, which means, without restrictions, gives you the ability to travel at almost 78% the speed of sound.

As far back as 1997, we already had a car that broke the sound barrier, meaning it basically ran faster than it's sound. Imagine outrunning your own voice, technically, you would be long gone before it's even heard.
Now we hear of a prototype for a land vehicle that will go as fast as 1000m/h. You heard right, 3 times faster than the speed of sound, and the speed of sound is just Mach 1 which is even hard to attain, imagine attaining going three times faster than sound.

Of course if materialized, it will be amazing, because before you exhale totally, the vehicle would be long gone and it's sound will take three times the normal time for a race car, for you to even hear that a vehicle was even there. Imagine missing and hearing after it's long gone, but here is the problem...

The laws were designed to make super fast vehicles but not use them freely

If you had an ice cream and you were told never to lick it because by chance, it was common knowledge that a brain freeze might occur was high, I am very sure your first line of thought will be, why was it manufactured in the first place.

The law does not prohibit you from owning a legal fast car, but it prevents you from exceeding a certain speed limit with such vehicle, which is sometimes about less than five times the normal speed of such a vehicle.

A street legal car, in it's simplest definition, is a vehicle without unlawful and unlicensed modification done to such a vehicle. Unlawful modification comes in many forms ranging from speed boosts, spare parts and lots more which, were not made or added by the original vehicle manufacturer.

The proper term for such is called a speed limit, which is legally how fast you should go in a particular environment. ##### There are usually exceptions to speed limits, as in cases of extreme emergencies such as a high speed police chase, paramedics on an emergency, federal agencies, but you don't see them driving Veyrons now do you?

The laws on speed limits were made for a good reason, to prevent certain maniacs from road abuse. For clarity's sake, road abuse occurs when certain road users recklessly endanger other road users by direct or indirect involvement or action.

By now, the main line of thought for some might be, why produce cars we don't really get to use, the answer is quite simple, it is because such cars were designed to make people "feel" fast not necessarily go as fast as getting themselves killed.

Let's go buy a Bugatti

So I ask again, does being fast allow you to go that fast

As a breakdancer, we aim for speed.

However, truly, speed is nothing without control.

With no control, our bodies look sluggish and the steps look sloppy. As a result, it looks like a speedy mess.

Control first and accentuate every movement. That's true speed.

Thanks @ehiboss

Good to meet a fellow dancer

Wudduppppp You dance too?!

yea I do

You, dance kwa
Interesting

Genre?

I have a phobia for speeding on our roads for very good reason. You'll cross a perfectly nice road in the morning, only to return in the evening to notice a wide gash. Someone may just be digging to pass a cable with no corresponding caution sign to show there is work in progress! So going above 120Km/h is not for me. At least I've been on a car that somersaulted on 110km/h. Our saving grace was everyone in the vehicle had his seatbelt strapped on. The experience could make for a nice post. I just may do it :)
Nice writeup boss.

Hope you didn't die sha? lol just kidding bro, good to see you survived.

I am typing this from the other side...we now have internet. Lol.
Yeah, it was a scary experience, happened so fast. Since then I am an advocate of not doing more than 120 km/hr...unless, of course, you are trying to get away from imminent harm.

Hello from the other side

We also have Adele here. Lol.

Hmmmn
This is interesting and a little bit funny
Why would cars be created to go fast and after legalising it, they still give you a speed limit..😕
I dont think being fast allows someone to go fast...

Fast cars were designed to show man how fast he can go and laws were made to show him how fast he should go.

I can admire the engineering, but there have to be limits on the roads or there would be even more deaths. Thousands die on the roads every day. People make mistakes. Save the speed for the track

Thousands also die without speed also being involved. But safety is important.

I guess the speed at which you can go depends on the capacity of the system, not that of the individual.

Most commercial airliners fly at 70-90% of their top speed almost throughout the flight. And there are no speed limits. If you manage to create a supersonic aircraft that doesnt produce sonic booms, you just became the next billionaire

I might just become the next billionaire indeed

Fast car gives the adrenaline rush. To be able to break sound barrier may result in a sonic boom which will alert the authorities. You dont want to do that in a quiet neighbourhood.

I'd worry more about illegal exhaust systems that can be noisy. Anyone who speeds through residential areas deserves to be arrested. They put lives at risk

What you say is right. But what i often see is that speed doesnt kill. Drunk driving is the main killer on the road.

That is a problem, but some people do not drive as well as they think they do. With higher speed there is less time to react

You are right in this aspect

True

Imagine outrunning your own voice, technically, you would be long gone before it's even heard......... These lines are.... Wow... Exceptional.

Being fast sure doesnt let one go fast not just speed or cars even all areas of life.

I'll be in and out before anyone notices am gone

speed isnt important then your precious life ... a life when taken it will destroy whole family happiness their dreams and their lovely person :( stay safe friends

very true

Some of these cars are technically “land Rockets”, like the one that set the Guinness world record in 2014/2015 dubbed “Insanity”.
The thing is; none of these fast cars can survive in the roads we have here, except for very few places. I love fast cars though

So I ask again, does being fast allow you to go that fast

I guess it doesn't. There are many regulations and these regulations try to ensure sanity.

I heard of a road in Germany(the autobahn) where you can run at max speed. There is no speed limit in some parts of that road

If human were to be rated for liking fast cars, indeed I'm one. 😂 But moving faster than I can, maybe I have to think twice. I love this write up. Resteeming

Thanks to Post

Well, being fast sometimes make me go fast... Like planning to get to a place as soon as possible, as soon i stick it to my mind that i have to hurry up... I put on my hazard light sometimes and my bright head lamps during the day(lol)... And i drive as fast as i can like its Ib City Fast and Furious... Blasting horn several times... That's why my Honda is one of the 'casted' in Ibadan..

So yeah!, sometimes... Being Fast makes me Go Fast without imagination... Just like when i see one small Nissan Micra containing SARS or Policemen is driving behind me... Lol...

Nice interactive post @ehiboss
