HERE IS THE TYPICAL LIFE OF A NIGERIAN ACCOUNTING STUDENT.

Many Accounting students, have reasons for choosing this field of study. For some, the choice was basically their's, while some other students had no choice but to opt for accountancy since their parents were already accountants. Finally, there is this sad group of students that were offered Accountancy because they couldn't reach the cut-off mark for their originally intended field of study. Hence, for the fear of spending one more year at home, they accept the admission and look positively into the future.

When you gain admission into the University and you made it into the Accounting department !!

And your first two months is like ABC so you think life is a bed of roses

First semester exams show up and you get all A's and you believe you"ll be the next Accountant-General of the Nigeria

Second year starts and things start going south

Your balance sheet starts refusing to balance

And the number of Accounts to prepare are now six per question

Income statements, trial balance, journal entries, balance sheet, profit and loss account, cash flow accounts.

As if that is not enough Cost and Financial Accounting and Case Analysis start bringing up their heads on your course list

And then Taxation becomes advanced and Auditing and Assurance start looking like hell

Taxation, why did you become advanced? why would people do fraud and expect us to find the errors?

And then you start seeing letters and greek symbols in your textbooks in Financial Management

what is that funny looking 'e' doing there? what is beta? what is all this lord?

To make matters worse, you are told you need to start getting ready for INSTITUTE OF CHATTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF NIGERIA(ICAN) LESSONS

So you have no social life, no sleeping pattern and you wonder if life's worth living and are about to give up.

So you start to reconsider your life's choices and if it's too late to change course

The result comes out and you passed everything
