Well he's the richest man in the World (at least, of he didn't give out so much). He also seems like a pretty decent guy, head up in the right place and a decent family to match.
He's also manged to stay out of major scandals in the lights of Fellow billionaires.
It's no secret that Bill Gates is a pretty admirable person and personality, and I do admire him - a lot of people do.
Imagine my amusement therefore when I came across a twitter thread where he was receiving some major bashing for.... Wait for it... Being rich.
For some reason socialism has endured a renewed romance with the far left and millenias from rich/well to do countries, which is pretty ironic because they're are vastly capitalist societies who rose on the back of individual interests and determination.
I'll say it once again here, I think socialism is a bad idea, on any guise. History has shown it actually disincentivices innovation and stalls progress.
Those fighting for it now do it from a privileged standpoint, and will probably deprive the next generation of that privilege if they succeed.
I urge everyone to read a book 'Why nations fail' By Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson. They worked really hard trying to show how lack of incentives for growth has halted progress of many civilization.
Unfortunately I believe with rising inequality, the lure of socialism will only get stronger. We might just be on a one way trip to shooting ourselves in the foot if we're not careful.
