It's the first thing every soon to be dad that's in to gaming thinks of when the news breaks. I know I sure as shit did 6 years ago.
Lifetime Co-op Partner WHOOOOO
Well, maybe the it's not exactly the first thought (shit shit shit shit shit,I'm gonna be a dad is serious contender for that one) but it's at the top at the very least.
Will it be a boy, will he like gaming, will he want to game with me.
YES YES YES.
Some dreams do come true.
Now, 6 years later, all those dreams are finally coming true. I can finally have awesome gaming sessions with my little boy and he's great at it.
We have already finished Super Mario Wii in 2-player co-op (I had boroughed the Wii console from my buddy @exyle especially for this) and just recently we finished Rayman Origins on the XBox One.
I had downloaded this as a Games with Gold free game last year with the idea to 'someday' be able to play this insane game. That someday has come and the game IS insane. I had not thought it possible to co-op this one with him just yet. It's so rediculously fast-paced !
Mooaaarrrr
But after finished Super Mario, he wanted more, and it was the only game I had with co-op at the time. He turned out to be surprisingly good at it. His reactiontime is awesome to say the least and most of the time I didn't even have to help him at all. He'd just wisk throught the levels at break-neck speeds. We recently finished it and just started another beauty that I played years back.
The Cave, from Double Fine (of Psychonauts & Brütal Legend fame).
It's a very slow paced puzzle platformer where there's 3 individual character to control to solve puzzle. In co-op 2 out of the 3 are controlled by us and we can swap to the 3rd at a moments notice.
It's great to have another game I can play with him toghether at the same time.
Do you guys have any co-op game reccomendations that I can play with my 6yo ? Because I'm sure we'll finish The Cave in no time.

I have a four year old who LOVES Minecraft! I just bought a second controller for our PS4, so I'll certainly be sharing some of the cool times that lay ahead for me ;) I also have a ten month old, so it won't be too long before we need a third1

Ooh that sounds great! My boyfriend and I are lucky enough to have found each other as co-op partners for life. We are trying to teach our little nephew a thing or two though. He's about 3,5 years old now and he's not great the the finer things yet, but he does enjoy playing some Pokemon Rumble World on my 3DS ;-)
A Wii definitely sounds like a good console for a young one, though I have to admit I don't know much about console gaming anymore. I used to love Mario Kart, Super Smash and Snowboard Kids when I was little. That was back when we had a Nintendo 64 :D

Console gaming for me is optimal, since it allows room for the both of us to sit in front of the TV. Computers would be a lot more difficult (since I'd need two). Nintendo games do tend to cater more for younger gamers, but as said, I have some nice games on the xbox that work perfectly.
I'm sure you're 3.5 yo nephew will get better over time ;)

I think your daughter can also be a good gaming partner :)
Gaming is not just for boys!
But, I must admit, my two boys were more fond of gaming than my daughter.

Mario Cart is absolutely the best game for kids. We went up to my sister @straycat's place for Christmas, and my son and my nephew had such a blast playing it. My nephew is 6 years old and he played a few times already so he is good enough to race each of us and I think he might have gotten 5th or 6th once. My son was only 5 and never played before so he was all over the place going backwards, crashing into stuff lol. I suppose it is not co-op, but it's still fun!

Co-op is best in the way that I can help him out if he does get stuck, but local multiplayer is just as much fun to do together.
Have your 5yo play 'regularly', and you'll notice he'll get better real fast. Kids have a way of picking up things much faster than us 'older' folks.
