Mars has been attracting scientists’ attention for centuries. Being named after the Roman god of war, the environment of Mars is actually not the friendliest. Dust storms and columns, weak electromagnetic field poorly protecting from the sun and cosmic radiation, thin atmosphere consisting mainly of carbon dioxide, the average temperature is -81 degrees Celsius, little gravity, an abundance of perchlorates in the soil, which doesn’t allow to grow any plants of the Earth. It doesn’t seem to be the best place for living, but don’t forget that a human is a tough creature and sooner or later it will find a way out of a tight situation, if there’s a goal desired.

Красная планета уже много веков привлекает внимание разного рода ученых. Носящая имя римского бога войны, планета Марс действительно не очень приветлива. Пылевые бури и пыльные вихри, слабое электромагнитное поле, которое плохо защищает от солнечной и космической радиации, разреженная атмосфера, состоящая в основном из углекислого газа, средняя температура -81 градус по Цельсию, маленькая сила тяжести, обилие перхлоратов в почве, что не позволяет там выращивать какие-либо земные растения. Казалось бы, что место не из лучших, но не забывайте, что человек – существо упертое, и он рано или поздно найдет выход из трудной ситуации, если перед ним стоит какая-либо цель.

But if Mars has so many disadvantages, why colonize it? In fact, it’s not all that bad. A Martian solar day (sol) is just a little longer than an Earth’s one, and it’s mean period is 24 hours and 37 minutes. The inclination of Mars' axis to the ecliptic plane is almost equal to Earth, so there is also a change of seasons. Mars is rich in minerals, and recently NASA scientists have confirmed the existence of water on the Red Planet.
Colonization of Mars can solve several problems of humanity simultaneously. For example, there we can store up valuable resources, which can be used later. Also, relocation of people of Earth on Mars can partially solve the demographic problems, as well as creating the "Cradle of Humankind" in case of major disasters on our planet.

Давайте подумаем, если у Марса столько недостатков, то зачем вообще нужно его колонизировать? На самом деле, не все так плохо. Марсианские сутки (сол) практически равны земным и составляют 24 часа 37 минут. Наклон оси Марса к плоскости эклиптики также почти равен земному, поэтому там также есть смена времен года. Марс богат полезными ископаемыми, и недавно ученые НАСА подтвердили наличие воды на Красной планете.
Колонизация Марса может решить несколько проблем человечества одновременно. Например, там могут находится ценные ресурсы, которые позже можно будет использовать, или же переселение части людей на Марс может частично решить демографические проблемы Земли, а также создать «колыбель человечества» на случай серьезных катаклизмов на нашей планете.

As I’ve already said, if people try hard, they’ll get achieve what they want. To make Mars a more pleasant place to dwell, we have to make it Earthlike, terraform it. First of all, we need to create a close to the Earth atmosphere saturated with oxygen. This can be accomplished via directional bombing of the Martian surface with comets. Strengthening of the magnetic field can be achieved by laying the superconductor ring with a connection to a powerful source of energy. The question of planting can be solved by using artificial soil.
Today there are lots of projects on the possible colonization of Mars. Besides, this issue engages not only government space agencies, but also private companies or nonprofit organizations. The Mars One is one of such organizations.

Как я уже говорил, если человек хорошо постарается, он всегда добьется своего. Чтобы сделать Марс более приятным местом для обитания, нужно сделать его земноподобным, то есть терраформировать. Во-первых, необходимо создать атмосферу, насыщенную кислородом, которая будет близка к земной. Это можно осуществить с помощью направленной бомбардировки марсианской поверхности кометами. Усиление магнитного поля можно осуществить с помощью прокладки кольца сверхпроводника с подключением к мощному источнику энергии. Вопрос посадки растений может быть решен с помощью использования искусственного грунта.
На сегодняшний день существует множество проектов по возможной колонизации Марса. Причем, этим вопросом занимаются не только государственные космические агентства, но также и частные компании или некоммерческие организации. Одним из таких проектов является программа Mars One.

It was founded by Bas Lansdorp in 2010 and it’s still functioning. 24 candidates have been selected for this mission, and since 2015 their active technical and psychological preparation for it has been conducted. According to the idea of the Mars One workers communication satellites will be sent to Mars In the near future. Later will also be sent residential units and loads, and after that they’re planning to send people in groups of four.

Mars One был основан Басом Лансдорпом в 2010 году и функционирует до сих пор. На эту миссию уже отобраны 24 кандидата, и с 2015 года ведется их активная техническая и психологическая подготовка. В ближайшем будущем, по задумке работников Mars One на Марс будут отправлены спутники для связи, далее жилые блоки и грузы, а следом уже и люди, планируется отправлять их «пачками» по 4 человека.

Elon Musk, founder of the company for the production of space technology SpaceX, has also shown interest in Mars. Firstly, according to his idea, there will be carried out a unmanned exploratory mission called “Red Dragon”. The spacecraft is expected to land and take soil samples from the Martian surface, and by 2026 Musk says to put humans on Mars. If his plans work out, he’ll be greatly ahead of NASA that is also working in this direction.
If a colony on Mars appears, it will be the first big step of humans in conquering space. Stepping into the unknown is always scary and dangerous, but nevertheless human curiosity always prevails.
It is fascinating to observe the progress of our civilization – things impossible yesterday are possible today. Just imagine, our grandchildren will have a possibility to go on vacation to Mars, and this is no longer a crazy idea! I wonder what it’s like… to pack your stuff, fly to Mars, and in a couple of months get back to your home planet Earth. The one thing is clear – ideas we now consider to be from the world of fiction, in the future will be considered to be daily reality, and the future is coming faster and faster.

Интерес к Марсу также проявил основатель компании по производству космической техники SpaceX Илон Маск. Сначала, по его задумке будет осуществлена беспилотная исследовательская миссия, которая носит название Red Dragon. Аппарат должен будет приземлиться и взять образцы грунта с марсианской поверхности. А до 2026 года Маск обещает доставить человека на Марс. Если у него это получится, то он сильно обгонит НАСА, которое тоже работает в этом направлении.
Если колония на Марсе все же появится, это будет первый большой шаг человека в космос. Шагать в неизвестность всегда страшно и опасно, но тем не менее человеческое любопытство всегда берет верх.
Интересно наблюдать прогресс нашей цивилизации, что было невозможным вчера уже возможно сегодня, ведь представьте, возможно для наших внуков "туристический отпуск" на Марс будет не такой уж безумной идеей! Интересного какого это...собрать чемоданы, слетать на Марс, а через пару месяцев вернуться на родную планету Земля, ясно одно - для нас фантастика, а для будущего обыденная реальность, и наступает она с каждым годом все быстрее и быстрее.
