About once or twice every year my brother organizes a night out with his friends to see them all together.
I know all of them very well.
They used to be over at our house when I grew up every night playing cards for years.
It was a nice time.
Over time I have slowly morphed from "My brother's, little brother" to Mark.
I'm about 4 years younger than most of them.
But age differences matter less and less the older you get I have noticed.
We started in a bar in the center of Rotterdam around 19:00.
Niels, one of the guys I workout with was the 'jar' for the night.
It's pretty simple, everyone gives him money, he pays all the bills and when he runs out of money you give him more.
It's a great system. Nobody counts. Nobody judges.
The beers kept coming. The atmosphere was great.
An hour later we made our way to the restaurant.
My brother booked a table in a small place called Roffa.
Upon entering the place I saw this. I was instantly happy as you can imagine. A bbq smoker inside the restaurant!
We sat down at a nice wooden table and more beers were ordered.
For food, we opted for the option that was recommended by the owner.
3 rounds of plates looking like this.
Starting with 'light' meat. Chicken wings, sausage and pulled pork working our way up to intense smoke 'fall off the bone' BBQ ribs.
I had about 1 second to take the picture above. Because anarchy quickly followed.
I don't think my brother could have picked a better place to make simple men happy.

Great time you guys had. You know, I was just thinking. You said all the members of @blockbrothers grew up in the same neighborhood and 4 of you guys are friends, and now your brother has like 6 friends, that is like 10 guys in all, and other guys in the neighborhood had their own friends, and their brothers had their own friends too, it seems the parents in that neighborhood have a rare gift of giving birth to guys only.
That neighborhood would surely be a very lively one when you guys were much younger. A neighborhood with this amount of young boys must have surely been a vibrant one. You guys sure had a neighborhood football team, and you @exyle was probably the goalkeeper (your huge nature would ensure no ball dares enter the goal post). Just my thoughts running wild though.

Close friendships don’t just happen – you make them happen. Kudos on that. This is good fun with gokd friends. Maintaining relationships is a hard, endless slog. There are pressures on our time from work and family, and i see this didnt weigh dowm your closeness.

We have a similar thing here to the jar, we call it the kitty (weird I know) and whoever has the kitty gets all the money and buys all the stuff then lets us know when we need to put in more. It does work great!

It may seem simple enough, but it can be easy to forget that seeing friends on your newsfeed doesn’t really count. The truth is that it is easy to stay connected with technology, but it is hard to emotionally keep in touch. Memories are made when you spend time with others. So to all of you — this is a call to action: Call those old friends! Shoot them a text or write an email. Then book a flight, or find a train or a bus or plan that driving trip. Good one @exyle. You are really a fun loving guy and i admire it the more because you work hard and also have fun aftermath. A great way to relax. Friends are the best. Many people I have met have never experienced a deeply connected group, and wish they could. I believe having a special group does not have to be left to chance or random circumstance — it can be consciously created at every layer of relationships in your life. We need layers of connections in order to feel whole. We need good food and barbeque. :)

Sure, it happens everywhere. As siblings grow older, the age thing matters less and less, especially for guys. Ladies tend to hold unto it much longer. If you check closely at some of the relationships you have now, you don't really care to know the ages of some of the people, but yet you can still be close with them. It was when we were much younger that we bothered ourselves about that.
