London here I come again! Trying, yet again, another way to get there.

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

This will be the third time I will be visiting London within a year.

I'm trying out different ways to get there to find out what's the best option for all the parties involved. (I'm staying at my friends Ezzy and Rea).

This time I'm trying the Rotterdam - London City route by plane.

The first time, Bianca and I went to Schiphol (Amsterdam) and used Easyjet to fly to London Luton.

It's the cheapest option at first glance but in hindsight, it was not, because there are a lot of hidden costs you only think about later.

Spending only 80,- euro on plane tickets (2 persons) is great but then come the extra costs and time in the form of the bus, the metro, the train and the inevitable food costs at Schiphol because you are starving.

But there is more. Also, the time and money (gas) Ezzy had to spend picking us up and bringing us back to the airport (4 hours total) should be added.

Basically, when you value your time and the time and money of others it's by far the most terrible option you can pick.

So the second time Bianca and I tried the train.

It's not as cheap as the plane at €287,89 (2 persons).

But it leaves from Rotterdam so it saved us a bunch of travel time/money (getting to Schiphol).

The journey is longer (5 hours) but also about 50x more comfortable for a tall guy like me. (being able to stretch your legs is hard to explain to short people)

Also, the train arrives at London St Pancras, which means Ezzy and Rea didn't have to drive too far to pick us up.

For me, it was a much better option.

But this time I'm going to try to fly from Rotterdam to London as a test.

It's the most expensive option out of all of them at 200 euro for 1 person. But it comes with a boatload of plusses.

I can drive my car to the airport and park next to the small terminal of Rotterdam airport (walking distance).

Get on the plane 30 minutes before it leaves and land in London City within an hour.

Basically, 3 hours after leaving my house I'll be in London.

Pretty cool when I think about it.

How it will be after I land I'm not sure yet.

I wanted to take the subway to Ezzy's house, I became pretty comfortable using the system.

But the guy insisted that he pick me up.

I hope he won't spend too much time driving and all that.

I'm looking forward to my trip a lot and meeting a bunch of Steemians on Saturday!

London has become your second home, all the best, have safe journey and a wonderful time at LCCS....

Enjoy your time with the steemians. :)

Thanks!

Greetings, exyle.

Excellent man. Here where I live it is a little more difficult to make these trips. Here the person to go to Europe, needs to have a very good income, or else, it will be those trips that last a short time and that it does not benefit anything.

I want to travel to some European countries, mainly Holland, Italy and Greece. I hope someday I'll have that opportunity.

Thanks for your tutorial. Good afternoon!!!

Cool, you are from Brasil. My girlfriend is from Brasil too. I hope you will have the opportunity someday man!

Trying different waysto travel is a very awesome way to keep ourselve exited everytime when we visit the same place and iam really agree with your saying that :-

being able to stretch your legs is hard to explain to short people)

I can understand your happiness because i am also very tall in height 😅😅

Enjoy your cryptocurrency show and keep us updated.

Hello exyle,

Good thinking to figure out the best way and to save time and money when traveling. Enjoy the meeting with other Steemians.

Travel to london becomes everybody's dream. However, sometimes they are confused to go to which country. if I choose London, England. Because there I will find many beauty-beauty in various places. One of them is the London Eye.
London Eye is the highest rides in London, England with a resembling shape of a giant windmill.

I know what you mean I am normally good at picking up all the costs you just need to relax and in your head play out the whole journey and keep food, drinks, transports in mind this normally helps calculate the full costs, yes normally the more expensive options save the most time and hassle unfortunately but lets us know @exyle

have some nice time in Londen, i realy love the city..;ther are some great musea over there..why dont take the tgv? its take only max 3h to travel to Londen, greetings

I did the train last time, it took longer than 3 hours. Goes to Bruxelles first. I do think that in 2019 there will be a direct line to London from Rotterdam. That will be sweet.

I thought I heard this weekend on TV that the high-speed train back was completely functional ... personally I thought the tvg from amster to rotterdam went to antwerp to brussels

Sounds like a fun time. I like trains for the ability to relax, but planes win for cutting down on time. But planes tend to be buses with wings. Seats much too close together even for this short person.Have a safe trip and most impotant have fun.

Thank you so much!

I live a 15 minute taxi drive from Rotterdam airport (I refuse to add 'The Hague' :P) so it's super convenient for me to go from R'dam Airport. The lack of city options is what drives me to Schiphol still, but I'm hopeful more and more destinations will be added.

The train to London was a succes for me too from Rotterdam. The Bruxelles cross-over will be replaces by a direct train soon, YAY :D

Yeah, I heard! That would be the dream.

What are you eating these days! You look younger and younger!

lol, maybe I'm less stressed.

It might be the most expensive but it will be totally worth it! Have an awesome weekend man!

Thanks, man!

I wish you a safe journey, and success with some games(I know you and Essy will have one or two shot while you are there).
Don't forget to tell us the experience with all those Steemians you'll meet at the London cryptocurrency conference. Have fun man.

Safe travels @exyle. I've never used London City Airport. Our first choice is Gatwick!

See you on Saturday. Woo hoo! 😁

Thanks! See you on Saturday!

How much would it cost you to drive (train through the chunnel)? From a time perspective, it's likely a little under 6 hours.

I drove from London to Brussels and back one day when I was over for work. I found it amazing that I could have breakfast in London a snack in Calais, late lunch in Brussels, then late dinner in London again.

I think it will take around 6-8 hours.

Sounds like it's going to be an adventurous and awesomely fun trip!! I am looking forward to your updates on your time there. Please! If you have an opportunity, give a high 5! to Alla @allasyummyfood for me!! Both of you being my new friends from Europe helping me through too many sleepless nights these past few months. And, i am thankful for that!!!

200 euro for 1 person isn't too bad.
And in the near future it will only cost 4 SBD!

Enjoy!

This is by far the best way to travel, the last option I mean. Have a safe trip and back.

Oh, yes, my friend, with your trips to London you have gained an excellent experience and now you know exactly which route is more beneficial and important, convenient for you. You are right, in our time it's better to pay a little more expensive, but to save time and nerves, and this is often more expensive than money! Thank you Mark.

I wish you a successful London trip from the most beautiful country in the world
I wish to visit her someday

it would be very exciting comrades, if I were in a place close to you, I really want to be able to gather with the stemean master like you, but what can I do in a place far away. wish me good luck ..

Have a safe flight, and I'm ancious about your experience in Londen !!!
Have a great time overthere !!

You've done a great way to blog what you have created in London. It's a good news to learn a lot when planting seeds. There is no end to learning. Many congratulations and greetings on your post, I look forward to seeing your next post.

The Train is 100% better. I've done both (To Amsterdam from London). Unless you're flying from City Airport, going to Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted is already almost half of the Train journey from St. Pancras :)

Hope to see you at the conference

I saw your posting well.

You went to London. I wish you a good time in London.
