Vlog 297: Gifting after 7 days + Ned talks briefly about oracles (video from @kafkanarchy84)

in life •  7 years ago

If you make a tutorial or another use-full post on the blockchain you can only be rewarded through upvotes within 7 days.

But unlike daily content these videos can be useful for a long period of time.

I found a tutorial by @teamhumble for instance about making a animated thumbnail on Dlive here.

Now the video is 3 months old and unalligitable for further rewards.

But because there is now a Gift button on Dlive I was reminded that I could still send him a token of appreciation for his work.

Here you can see the gift box.

Now that's cool in my opinion.

It's something I hope more frontends will use in the future.

Ned talks briefly about oracles (video from @kafkanarchy84)

Check out this post here by user @kafanarchy84. The video is in there.

It will give you a small idea how Oracles will tie in with account based voting.

In the video Ned says a white paper about Oracles will be released soon.

Greetings, exyle

Many thanks for the videos tip. Learning about steemit is always good. These tutorials should be seen by all the newbies who enter that platform, in my opinion. It helps too much.

Something you raised that I think is important, is the question of these videos or some article written can not be more remunerated. I know that if the items are eternally remunerated, it will dry up the pool of steemit rewards. However, there are articles that are very good and that in my opinion could receive rewards more, even for, reward the writers and keep them writing well !!!

Thank you and good morning!!

whoa. dude, that's awesome. thank you for the gift! and a perfect example how 'long tail' content or 'evergreen' content as it's called can still bring you rewards later on. THANK YOU! :)

Well deserved man. Have you ever thought about giving some paid private lessons or something. I would like to make my stream look more professional. If you have any ideas maybe we can talk about those?

i've been already doing that for @steemrollin every week ;) --- been designing his online webinar for crypto investments, he should start his twice-weekly show soon ;)

as for paid private lessons i would love that. i use appear.in for video chats and i charge per hour ($25) and of course i accept steem or sbd for payment! :)

i would love to help make you look super professional man -- yes, i'd love to have a video chat, maybe we can talk tomorrow on video chat at a time that suits you?

Cool! I'll send you a message on discord.

perfect, all done and dusted. technology is fantastic. speak soon! :)

Have you already posted in #steemgigs?

The 7 day thing is annoying, but I expect the blockchain would grind to a halt if they had to calculate rewards for longer periods. I put something in my post footer suggesting people can vote up another of my posts.

Does the gift button send some funds? I think it's worth having that everywhere to make transfers simpler. Some people can't give much with a vote anyway.

Good point: even after seven months of posting quality content with original graphics, constructive comments, and upvoting interesting/useful posts, I still only get a small number of views, very few comments and my votes are only worth $0.01

A gift button is a welcome addition.

This is another good feature to be added on this great blockchain, i hope this gifting feature should be enabled even for the normal posts as well....

It really is a good feature. This is development

Indeed!

Oh thats really great. I noticed that videos on DTube too get rewarded only for 7 days. I hope it can be like YouTube and rewarded at anytime. Seven Days is a short period of time and wont encourage people to check them out after some weeks. I like to upvote videos at anytime even if they are some months old. That way they will have more value.

It's a general feature of Steem. Originally it was up to 30 days, but was reduced to 7. Its annoying when you want to reward older posts

I hope they would rest it. I think if they want to be in the same level as Youtube or even better, they should try to improve everything and make it easier for users.

Yes thats a very good observation. Many Users in Steemit post provide their BTC or ETH or BCH address for any donation. It would be interesting if we had that gift option in Steemit post also.

I hope it will show up more on more front ends.

I was just talking about Dlive to a friend of mine this morning who uses Facebook Live and suggesting that it would be worth giving it a try. I thinnk the gifting aspect will make a big difference as she posts the sort of stuff that is petty timeless. I'll pass the message on. 😊

Cool, I hope it will help her.

I also saw the gift box on dlive 2 days back, I was kind of wondering how it works. Good seeing you throwing more light on it this morning.
Now someone can even get reward after 7 days of his post on a gift box. wow!, this really good man. It's good and more advantage for those creating articles to get reward.
Thanks for sharing @exyle

This is really good. Means someone who makes a nice video cant get royalties for as long as possible and not just after the normal 7 days

yeah as you can imagine. I am pretty stoked about it! :)

Dlive currently first of it type with various changes been made daily, the team at dlive works tirelessly to ensure that streamers have a nice time and I must say the changes are really looking superb only a matter of time before we see more users coming into the platform

It´s a good/perfect reason to change your internet provider. The quality in the stream will be significantly better, I know some people who changed to fiber and the difference between both types of internet is huge.

Gifting, another incentive to make this community a different place, where people care about each other...

I'm in the process of changing the emails of all my accounts. I guess it was a long time coming.

Good morning @exyle! It's fun that you are doing more of what you enjoy and learning/ growing in the process. Enjoy your time working with @teamhumble to spice up your live streams!! Have an awesome day 🌹🍓🌹

OMG I had no idea the gifting feature works past seven days! I don't remember reading that in the update at all! Thank you so much for mentioning this! Upvoted, followed and resteemd!

The gift button is cool. I have some ideas for videos that might get clicks over time, the one week limit for rewards makes me hesitant to try

We just started posting on DLive again and we did notice the two buttons, one for upvoting and one for gifting. Well timed and thank you for explaining as we weren't too sure. Yet, now you have said it, it reminded us of the Vice documentary about female Chinese Live Streamers getting $20,000+ per month income through gifts that they redeem as cash. It's big business and trendy now in China. Yet, on the Steem blockchain it's used as it's main purpose to reward content creators after the 7 days upvoting have expired.

Thanks for the information and updates on dlive and on oracles. The gifting button on dlive is really creative and brilliant addition. I also watched the video of @ned talking about oracles and the new voting systems. This is going to be very interesting as we will no longer need votes of big whales to be successful. Looking forward to seeing how they will put all this together :)

I’m really curious how this gift button works out. It actualy can work perfectly is someone gets attached to this specific post after while or if someone actualy raises money for something useful. I think it’s a great idea.

oracles will be in incentivized positions to verify these things, and vote/create smart contracts accordingly.

I read the post of @kafanarchy84. This sounds exciting. Especially when quality of post instead of quantity of votes makes a payout difference.

It really is a good feature your video was helpful .

I resteem your post my blog .

Your post is always different i follow your blog and upvote everytime , your post is so helpful . I always inspire of your post on my steem work . Thank you for sharing @exyle

Follow my blog @powerupme

Thanks for the info @exyle, that's a cool feature, i like it

Creating video needs a skill and needs to excel
A very special article really did well

Wao amazing dear @exyle you give us a great and helpfull gift . It give us long time rewards your post is great I really like it and now I want to try it for my self

@Ned is now an oracle? Can he also tell us the exact time, when SMTs will be live? 😉
Seriously, nice info - looking forward to it!

Thanks a lot about the gifting , givers are always happy. And thanks for the tips of an evergreen content. You’re much appreciated

thats amazing!! :) i didn't know about this gift option yet!!! thats really useful and will encourage more people to post and do useful videos!

That idea sounds great! It would feel so nice to be able to send gifts so someone in any form. Right now, crypto form maybe the best haha!

Oh my. That gifting feature will come in handy especially for minnows. Whale votes are hard to come by and we really didnt have a way to support each other monetarily. We need more front-ends, as you said implementing this. :D

Thank you for pointing that out. I think some of the content posted on steemit are made to be short-lived because of the reward window and that we should put more effort into creating truely quality content that will remain relevant even after the earning window closes.

yes sir i think its really that's cool in my opinion now.

by the way congratulation for 15K Dtube Subscribers.

Pretty interesting gifting idea that is for all the creators plus wonderful update you shared :)

That's great !

Great point @exyle. I think the seven days expiration period on the content is a disincentive to produce evergreen content. In fact, why would I create an evergreen piece if after seven days I don't get rewarded?

I'd rather be better to surf the news wave to gain short-term buzz that gives me more upvotes and rewards in return. Also, to produce evergreen content, it takes a long time, and it usually grows organically. And to do so, it needs months.

As Steemit gains most of its traffic from Google, before the saerch engine adjust its signals a week is too short. So definitely DLive initiative is brilliant in that sense. I hope all the Steem Blockchain apps will use this approach to take a step forward regarding content quality.

I hope SMTs will be configurable so that content upvotes can be weighted by a variety of factors, including reputation, stake, verified identity, number of followers, available bandwidth, etc.

I appreciate the democratic ideal that account-based voting aspires to, but I don't understand how the incentives will work out.

That's a very interesting use case of the "Gift" button, you mentioned. Never thought it can be used after 7 days to easily send rewards.

I saw @kafanarchy84 post about @ned's visit to Japan and the talk, you know this will certainly be viable, when people still get appreciated for their work that's still relatively viable and resourcesful, I think I'm really loving this

Oh...Its really great, sir...

The gifting feature combined with oracles could be more than revolutionary for the steem ecosystem. I would love to see the end of voting bots and other nasty stuff here.

Ahhhh that's HUGE! I didn't even think of that use case for the 'gift' button! Yeah, that makes so much sense!

Niceee ! :)

I have made lots of evergreen language learning posts (several hundred on Quora), but the lack of reaction (eyeballs and upvotes) on is discouraging. Offering a gift option is a great idea. Thanks for the news.
