We have 3 family members that hold Crypto (as far as I know).
My mom, my 5-year-old niece and me.
2,5 years ago I gave my 3-year-old nice 25 dollar worth of BTC for her birthday.
6 months ago I wrote that same Bitcoin had gone 10x and was worth $250.
I can now proudly say that BTC is worth $780!!
Not bad for a 5-year-old.
I always had the dream that somehow that little bit of BTC I gave her could pay for her studies.
13 years to go to find out :)
She must have been around 3 here.
I do think it's a little easier for my niece to hold because she has no concept of money yet nor does she knows she even owns BTC :)
My mom has also made a nice return on investment and finally took some profit.
She has shown to have strong hands I can tell you that.
She bought a whole BTC not long ago and it has gone up 3.5 times.
I would have taken profit much earlier.
She sold 1/3th of her investment and got the whole principal back plus $750 profit.
How cool is that! Makes me proud.
Also makes me feel relieved, she can't make a loss anymore too :)
As for me, I have the BTC charts open on my second screen non-stop.
I remember very well in 2013 that BTC first went through a $1000 for the first time.
I saw it live. It was epic. (so was the crash that followed soon after btw).
Now, 4 years later we have the chance of another historic moment.
I want to be there when it happens.
When you said your dream was for that little BTC to pay for her tuition, I tried to see the possibility of that.
If bitcoin was $1000 in 2013, and it's close to $10000 in 2017. So if we are dealing with an ideal case, bitcoin rose 10x in 4years.so in the next 12 - 13 years which is when your niece will be going to the university , following this ideal pattern, bitcoin will be worth 10million dollars, and hers will be worth $780000.
Wishing your nice the best possible education, i checked out the tuition fees for Harvard University, and I found it out to be around $79000.So if bitcoin continues in this trend, your nude will not only pay for her tuition with this money, but would also have around $700000 to join steemit and powerup here on steemit.
I hope this works out for her.

Isn't it great? I'm so pleased and I think your little niece will also be pleased one day, whatever the price of Bitcoin will be. For me, it's the first time (except birthday's etc.) to get so much money (profit on the bitcoin) I didn't have to work for, just receive it. Its like a big gift.

This is so cool! My husband and i have been telling anyone that asks us what we want for Christmas to get us bitcoin. Or eth. Lol. We've invested a small amount in 3 different coins, but we don't look at it as a potential for huge profits, it's the blockchain technology that we're excited for. It does feel nice to see the value go up though, that means it's taking root. Changing things! If we make a little money off of it in the next 5 years or so, that would be an excellent bonus. Kudos to you for thinking ahead to the future for your niece, i think one day we may see a post on steemit from her about her wise uncle and his $25 investment. 😉

You are really a super uncle @exyle. Something came to my mind. If Guinness book of records were to conduct a search for the richest 1-5 year Olds that did not inherite their wealth from their parents wealth, I think your niece might come in first, cause she literarilly got her wealth from her own investment.
Glad you made the right choice for her - the smart choice.

You know, you gave your niece the perfect gift. Every other gift she received on that her birthday would start depreciating in value from the moment she opened the gift, but only yours would continue to increase in value.
That was smart of you @exyle. I'll have to adopt this gift giving pattern.
Am glad your mums investment brought back so much returns.

Thanks @exyle. Great investment you had there and it paid off. I had my regrets too
Two years ago I sold a project of mine / website for £100 worth of bitcoin which back then was worth around 0.5 BTC, and due to the volatility of BTC at that moment I quickly converted my BTC into cash. What was worth £100 would now be worth £1500! How unfortunate of me - but hey ho, you can never predict the future. The moet important thing is that when you see a potential, go for it. Its better you invest when you ought to than to be sorry you didnt.

Nice one my friend. She cant make a loss again. She cant. Now 4years later we are here.
Personally, I had a bit of extra money at the time and I didn’t realize it’s potential so I opted for a safer investment. I did some quick math some time ago and let me tell you, those feelings were not comfortable.
But… a lot of people are looking for the next bitcoin :) The problem is that the stats are against them (and a few other things). Thats opportunity for you. Who knows the future. Great investment from you i must say

You know when you said your nice you and your mum were the only family members that hold crypto, I reasoned that this is really and ideal representation of who and who can hold crypto.
You niece signifies little children. Even little children can hold crypto.
You signify the adult category. Any mature person can hold crypto.
Your mum signifies the mums and dads. Some parents feel crypto is for the younger generation, but your mum shows that it is also for the too.
From these illustrations, anyone, I mean anyone can buy and hold cryptos.
Awesome

Wow. Great decision. Glad that everyone partook from it.
I see some people having regrets here and there. But just like @ exyle said, the future holds more. Dont be beaten twice. The best time was yesterday, the second best time is today, I got in during 2013 when one Bitcoin was $120, this might seem like nothing but one Bitcoin used to cost less than $1 so I thought I was really late.
I still went ahead and bought a few anyway and continued to buy more every time I got my paycheck, today the price isalmost in 5 digits and unlike last time I think we are still early. Thanks @exyle and glad you didnt sell off.

Wow glad you made the choice on time and believed in bitcoin back then. I can see you are reaping the benefit. Good choice that profit wasnt taken much earlier.
I did invest, but only with my time. It was back in 2011 when BTC was hovering around $5-$10. At that time tons of Bitcoin businesses were starting up but all had poor design. So I opened up a design shop that charged BTC for services. I charged 5 BTC for a logo design which was heavily discounted from my normal rate. Over the course of 2 months I made 200BTC…and a few months later I sold them all for $2000.
Not one of my wiser choices and I certainly regret it. But $2000 meant a lot to me as a broke university student at the time so I made the decision to sell. At today's value I could have made more than 500x, but what's done is done! This experience did teach me an important lesson in calculating risk vs. reward which will pay off in the future. Thanks for the post

But honestly you can't let yourself feel bad! For all you know the price could have gone down, and then you'd be writing a different story.
To answer your question.
Do Bitcoin has gained too much popularity and there is no comparison with other digital currencies. That is why the difference between the value of a Bitcoin and any other currency is very high. Major difference that has given Bitcoin an edge over all other digital currencies is the fact that Bitcoin is decentralized (e.g. Ripple is centralized).
There is no agency or government controlling Bitcoins. All other digital currencies are associated with some owner or group. Decentralization of Bitcoins makes possessors of Bitcoins feel safe and sound. They don’t have to be dependent on any third party or agency while transferring their Bitcoins. Nor do they have to pay large transaction fees. They are also protected against Bank Insolvency.
It is because of decentralization of Bitcoin, that no country can say it is their currency, no matter where the Bitcoins have been mined. As such Bitcoin is called global currency since it doesn’t belong to any one country. So if you invest in Bitcoins, you are not investing in any foreign currency.
So i cant make the choice for you

Your mum really has strong hands. I understand when you say so. At around last 2-3 months the price of bitcoin crashed to around $3000 from $5000,and I guess your mum had bitcoins then, and for her to still hold on and not sell out, she got a lot od boldness and courage.
Am glad it paid out at the end, she sure deserves the rewards being that she is not only a courageous woman, but also an nice and inspirational person.I follow her blog, @clio, and she has remained an inspiration to me.
All the best
