Can’t watch the video on my crappy mobile. Wish you would type out a summary for me. Wait, maybe I should be funding that with an upvote here in the comments. Somebody?!
I'll give you a brief summary from my point of view but it's one to watch when you can.
This is one of the finest vlogs on steemit to date. Given by someone 99% of the platform can relate to, just an everyday guy who's always thinking (perhaps too much some days!) about the future of steemit, himself, and others involved here right now.
Discussed topics include:
Anonymity and a thoughts on the option to keep yourself that way if your face isn't already on steemit. (That's exyle and myself out of it then!)
Distribution of wealth via voting power (currently $30 at full power), the creation of money from nothing
Funding of charities via Steemit, or Projects of interest, wanting to know the Steem was going to the right place
Top vlog man, enjoy the sunshine while it lasts :)
CommentGigs have been a thing for me, and i suspect other newer users, especially since the zoom in vote power - If your blogs don't get the hits (for a number of reasons), comment with some thought and effort on the blogs you are interested in eh! Still, this is a one off for me so thanks again guys! And yes, it'll be powered up in a weeks time!
I can finally conclude this is my favorite video post in steemit so far. Because most of the Vlogs are about making more money and not about how to use the excess money for the welfare of the society after your needs are taken care of. Great thoughts I am from India and I am really happy to hear what you said.
You won't be able to find out directly who is in need but I am sure when there is a need in the society people who are associated with steemit can always ask for help and highlight the situation and finally donate the post payouts.
You talked about many issues in one post thus my reply will be longer, the payouts are going to come down and it's already showing. Sometime back when I watched your vlog from that time I am powering up. I too believe in it's future. And as you said some years down the line when the post payouts come down due to more n more users, then your idea of affiliate program will be handy i guess.
If you don't mind can i ask whether the ad you put up is working or not. And if it is then am I eligible to put up this or similar sort of ads in order to earn a bit more revenue??
Thank you for your nice reply. I think a lot of possibilities regarding the Steem blockchain are still not discovered. I like to think about what could be possible and share my thoughts on my blogs. If this thing grows and grows Steempower can be used for a lot of good in my mind. I do like to become financially independent. It's been a goal of mine for a long time.
Same thoughts here. i am not saying i'm perfect or saint, but want to be involved in charities to help sick children who can not afford expensive surgeries.
But well.. have to get to that point of financial stability first.
Yeah - you are speaking out of my heart. Anonymity is a big question mark as user base and especially your wallet grows.
Much more interesting I find the thought about charities or charitable organizations and how they could leverage Steemit to generate support for their good cause out of thin air (which in my opinion is not out of thin air but from people's interset - mind-blowing!). We visited a few children supporting charities around Christmas last year in South Africa. I was just sitting here listening to you and thinking how amazing this could be for those organizations. Now with this power - as you call it - also comes great responsibility if this is to be used for real case charity. These organizations really need the money and so the donated / upvoted steem could not sit on the blockchain for long I guess. They would have to pull it out and use it in their SA Rand. One day we might have food suppliers, builders, electricity providers... that run their bills / operations over a blockchain but I do not see this happening very soon, especially not in SA.
ESH - sorry for the rant. Again - great stuff - keep going.
It's my experience that people are surprisingly fast to adept when there is business involved :) I know I would be with my business. I do have hopes for a Steem blockchain economy one day with more and more user adaptation. I don't consider your reply a rant at all man, very good reply and thank you for that.
Very realistic video @exyle ! Thank you very much for the thoughts and ideas. I would say, you're really a very good person who not only think of yourself but also the less fortunate. I'm always looking forward to hear from you and hopefully with the latest trend of payout, would soon be stable. You've reached the pedestal of your earning, a regular income, hoping one day, I too can reach that place so that, I can also share to those who really are in need. Just take care and to your family. Thank you very much again!
Anonymity was the main reason for the creation of cryptocurrencies. I just recently wrote a post about how crypto developers should be anonymous. This could also apply to big players or whales like you. But then again, would you have gotten the power to create 30 dollars by pressing a button if you were anonymous?
My friend,
You will learn that not all charities are pure! You have the opportunity to find good people to support. When you find them, track them now when the steem price is low. I notice that you sometimes support your commenters. I am sure you know how to observe their past posts to see their gifts to the community over time. Everyone has a reason for being here. Look for good people now.
Hi, so if we would tell you, yes its better to ne anonymous...What would you do? Close this great blog and make another account? Please dont do that XD
Anonymity is a great tool, a powerful weapon and a great exploit if one knows how to use it and abuse it. It's both wonderful and scary thing all at once depending mainly on who uses it and how he/she chooses to do so.
Creating money from nothing. Not quite, not as I see it. It is created by some means, but people post content and fight for their share of the loot. They offer their hard work, friendly face, fun stuff or any other thing they feel that is needed and compete. Whales, and other powerful people/users that have greater share of SP can distribute and redistribute the rewards as they wish. They decide on how the loot is shared and distributed by using their power. They can use it fairly, or they can abuse it. Its up to them.
I'm investing in SP, I have a goal in mind and I'm highly motivated. So far I converted most of my earned SBD into SP. It'll take me quite some time but I don't mind, I'm having fun. I took 3 euros worth of SBD and rewarded myself with some ice cream last week.
Good post, great job @exyle.
You raised too many good points in your video. I certainly agree that having Steem is the best way to make more Steem and this comes with a lot of power and responsibility.
I also love the idea of charities on the blockchain as this will make them incredibly accountable. That's a great idea!
As far as anonymity goes, I have always preferred it and I really don't understand why do people think that your introduce yourself post should include personal verification. I am happy to be here and to use steemit, but I have reasons to not want to reveal much about my identity. Is that so bad?
I think so too. But when I registered, I read a lot of guides that were saying that you should get verified, that your #introduceyourself post should have a photo of you with something written by hand and so on. I get that the blockchain is supposed to be open, but that was something I really don't feel like doing and it felt a bit strange to see that. Then I realized that it wasn't really a rule and a lot of people simple didn't care for that just like myself.
Thanks so much for this wonderful video. I actually agree with a lot of your points. I was also thinking about how the rewards would be divided if there are an ever growing base of users as the reward pool is always a fixed amount per day. I thought at some point that Steemit might have to monetize through ads to get additional income for new users. However, what you said is also possible in that new users would be paid in fractional token amounts that are worth more. I think you are definitely correct in saying that the price of Steem should over time. As a result, I have taken your advice from a couple videos ago and I am slowly accumulating a larger position in Steem power over time.
Lekker bezig hoor.
Creating money out of thin air? I've never thought of it in those terms exactly but that's essentially what holding Steem Power gives you. This is why I feel Steem Power might be the greatest investment of our lifetime. I've been thinking of different ways that Steemit could help the average person who doesn't want to blog, but could benefit greatly from Steemit. I discussed that here.
Supply and demand has always been the driving force of every free market throughout history, and I feel you are spot on. As more users come aboard, Steem will harder to acquire, which in turn should increase the price of Steem. I also feel there will come a time when Steem will de-peg it's self from Bitcoin and stand on it's own 2 feet. When that will be, I don't know. But when the time comes when we can trade Steem directly for fiat, I think the value of Steem tokens will rise exponentially. Great post as always brother. Cheers!
I think people are waking up and seeing the huge potential into steem.
Over time, from blogs and comments, you will probably start getting less Steem as it gets more valuable so it is probably the best time to invest now.
I don't have much money but I'm trying to get as much steem power as I can.
If SBD rises again, I'll convert all of it into steem.
Steem On!
You rarely find discussions about buying steem on Steemit. (A bit ironic.) It’s all about earning it from scratch. I think this is largely a result of poor information.
It's definitely ironic considering how many discussions there are on here about buying and holding cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. I do think people are misinformed about it. It might not exactly zoom up in price 500% like Ethereum did a couple months ago. However, it is true that having Steem power is almost like having the power print money.
I think for many people the game of earning STEEM is their strongest impression of what Steemit is all about. The idea to buy coin directly comes... later? Or maybe never?
The parallel is mining. A lot folks like the whole concept; that’s why they bother with the headaches. But for small timers, it’s almost always more sensible to just buy coin, especially if you believe in its future.
Very true, yes Steem price is directly proportional to the supply of Steem. If we get less Steem for posts then the price of Steem will definitely go up. The rate at which new users are joining Steemit everyday, i expect the Steem price to be around $10 before the year end.
The problem of handing an ever increasing wealth and responsibility to a few whales is beginning to resemble society as well.
In our current society we are seeing a larger gap between the rich and the rest. AI and machine learning has accelerated that trend. AI as cheap and effective labor is out competing humans resulting in some very wealthy individuals - namely those owning the robots.
Here on Steemit that might be the people owning the Steem they bought for pennies in the startup phase. That is problematic in many ways. One of the biggest challenges will be to attract new users, when income potential for new users decreases.
Thank you for talking openly about these issues as a Whale.
Why not....... The central banks have done pretty well out of creating money out of thin air, but at face value they have Janet Yellen at the forefront whether or not she actually pulls the strings is another matter!!
A lot of interesting ideas, but too difficult to follow. I would love to see this in a systemized article, in written language. Crypto currencies are a mystery to me. I hate fiat currency, and I have mixed feelings regarding cryptos. Will they became fiat currencies themselves, just without the goverment control? In fact, why should we be sure government control won´t pop up in cryptocurrencies as well?
Hello from Kenya in Africa, yeah I agree with you that people don't realize the power of steem. However, as the value continues to grow and more people join steemit platform then they will come to know just how powerful it is. I believe that the rewards will also be the same or higher. Rewards will only drop if the value of the steem token falls, but if it keeps growing things willl be good. I like and follow your blog.Thank you for sharing and keep steeming
Do you remember this vlog you did? Particularly from 6 mins 37. If you could spare me a few mins i'd like to put this by you.
This November it's very likely we will be traveling to Nepal to do some volunteer work in an orphanage @osm0sis helped at last year. The way she speaks about the experience has made me want to do it, and the idea has been floating in my mind for much of the past year.
This vlog you did, which i remember well, made me think about using my presence here as a v/blogging account for this project. What i'd like to try and achieve would be to show what you are giving when providing money (out of thin air) to a charitable cause.
One idea would be to ask when we get there, what do you need? Get a list and show it to Steemit. We could then see who would like to give say a few microscopes, a guitar, paint for class room - All things Sylvia provided herself last year.
As you say, donating to a charity is all well and good, but you don't see truly where the money goes. This would hopefully be different.
Would you see this as something you could see yourself being interested in?
and
Do you think it's worth coming to steemfest to discuss this idea with fellow steemians?
He, man, thanks for this message. I really like this idea and to see if the Steem blockchain can help here. Would it be possible to talk about this in more detail? I'm on discord and on Steemchat under my username.
Really hoping it's OK to include you in the post - hopefully it will give you a much better idea of our plans. If you have anything you wish to change, let me know!
would be cool to catch up, when you have some time around changing nappies!
I was wondering Bianca was attending Steemfest, and the conferences? We are both coming to Steemfest (yes!), but i'm wondering if the day stuff would keep Sylvia's interest (hackathon - lol), or if I should get 1 ticket and let her do her own thing until the more social, relaxed events in the evening? I want her to be there because her passion about helping out will be a really good thing for people to see, you know.
Was also wondering about things such as:
a new steemit account for the project
who will be the best people to try and talk to at steemfest about our plan
If you'd like to be the 'face' or like, lead guy for the project

Hey man
Do you remember this vlog you did?
I'd appreciate your thoughts and advice greatly.
Cheers
Asher

He, man, thanks for this message. I really like this idea and to see if the Steem blockchain can help here. Would it be possible to talk about this in more detail? I'm on discord and on Steemchat under my username.
Edit:
somewhere this week is fine :)

I got your message to contact rolandp. I was wondering if i could post a pitch here, and take some quotes from your vlog a few months back?
I wouldn't want to do a talk at the event, just chat and see who was interested you know?

would be cool to catch up, when you have some time around changing nappies!

I guess we can discuss this at Steemfest over a few beers :D
Have a good day!
