Vlog #68: Steemfat: Full body measurement in the gym. 114KG / / 24.6% fat // BMI 28.5

in life •  7 years ago

Before my gym session today I asked to be measured/scanned on a machine they have there.

It measured my whole body.

You have to take off your shoes and grab some handles. It then proceeds to scan you.

These are results, I have a good baseline now.

Weight: 114 KG (251 lb)
Fat mass: 24.6%
Muscle Mass: 81.8kg (180 lb)
BMI: 28.5

The machine gives you a lot more info. But these are the ones I understand.

According to the instructor that measured me, it's very important that I take some extra protein in the form of a shake.

When you diet and exercise at the same time a body (apparently) want's to eat its own muscles.

This is something I want to prevent at all cost. So extra protein it is.

Also my fat 24.6%. But what does that mean? I found this picture. 25% looks like me :).

I guess aiming for 15% is realistic for now. Reducing my moobs would be nice too!

I don't have much experience with losing weight. It has always has been the other way around.

Gain weight to build muscles when I was working out hard or later....just get fat eating badly.

The latter put me in my current situation :)

Today's meal as promised. Bianca made the meat. I wanted to use the Green Egg today even if it was just for some vegetables.

Hi there, my son is a personal coach for more than 9 years now, and a very succesful one also if I may say so. Having some knowledge about this subject myself as well.
Want I want to say is this: Don't expect miracles by just taking these extra protein-shakes and doing exercises on a regular basis. You also have to speed up your metabolism. And you can do that by eating more times (6 or 7 = about every 2/2,5 hour) a day, but smaller portions.
And the meals-ratios should be: less carbs, more protein and a little fat. Fat is ok, the body needs that. Just not too much.
Eat chicken, red meat, nuts, kwark, eggs, bananas, veggies and drink water. I know it's maybe a lot, but at least 2 (preferable 3) liters a day. Drink green tea.
For extra exercises at home in the morning before even having breakfast I advise you squats (thighs biggest muscles burning lots of calories).
And in the gym don't forget ofcourse combining the muscular exercises with some cardio-training.
About the exercises just one thing. It's not the weight you're lifting or pushing. It's doing the exercises the right way which is the most important!!!
Am not saying I have all the wisdom, but I know by experience that not all gyms have a complete specialized team walking around.
Good luck!!

Thanks a lot for this info!

Wooh, it was a free advise. Still, you thanks a lot for your generous upvote ...

It can be difficult to gain muscle mass and lose weight at the same time. Usually, what ends up happening to me is that some of the fat gets converted into muscle mass. Don't be too surprised at first if you gain some weight. Typically, the weight you gain in that case is probably going to be extra muscle mass gained from working out.

The scale you were using in the gym is I think is one based on electrical impedance which means it just sends a current through your body to determine your body mass composition. It's somewhat inaccurate compared to other more expensive methods but it gives a decent ball park figure.

Thanks for the info about the scale. That's useful. I will use it as a baseline but in the end....pictures don't lie :) (I won;t photoshop I promise)

Losing weight and getting back in shape is a tough transition to make when you're used to eating and drinking what you want, but you hit the nail on the head when you said it's simply about changing your mindset. We can accomplish anything with the proper mindset and confidence plays such an integral part in that process. I think it's awesome your sticking with it brother and I have no doubts you'll get it done.

On a different note, I brought up the Polo situation regarding Steem to @jerrybanfield and this was his response:

Exactly @orionschariot thank you very much for this comment because I am just about to release an idea for us to be able to work on this exact problem! With Poloniex essentially holding hostage almost 25 million Steem, we are going to need to work together now that Steem withdrawals are enabled to get the Steem out of there because it is easier to buy elsewhere and the price everywhere else leads off of Poloniex. If we get that Steem off there, the price will likely to up a lot just from lowering the supply there! I will do a post about this soon!

Jerry has a very large following and him getting the word out on this situation can be a very positive thing for the Steem price going forward. While Polo is allowing Steem withdrawals, we need to get as much of it out of there as possible. Have a great night brother!

Haha! I think you are responsible for Polo enabling withdrawals and deposits again today :).

I think this is the earliest I've been to one of your posts haha

I knew this post would be a great post when... you had your green egg and... YOUR POKEMON T-SHIRT! It looks absolutely amazing. Always puts a huge smile on my face. I know you wouldn't want to but will you ever go out and wear the pokemon t-shirt in public? You should do it in the name of confidence which you have been trying to promote :)

I can't wait to see how much those statistics change after you finish your journey with steemfat and steemfest comes around. I think it would be possible to get to 3-4% (said no one ever). Man someone must have some dedication to get your body fat that low.

15% looks like an achievable goal and one which I'd be happy with, and I think you will be able to do it @exyle if you stick to it! :) Hopefully, you looking back at your previous pictures acts as a way to motivate you again. You did a revolutionary thing once, and you can do it again.

Protein shakes seem like a good idea. You don't want your muscle decaying due to the fact you don't have enough energy. Well it looks like you are having another great healthy meal. Keep it up! :)

What's wrong with wearing pokemon shirts in public??? I do it all the time!

But, then again, I have no friends 😂😂

LOL!

Met deze kun je trouwens echt altijd de stad in:

I can feel my mindset is shifting. 15% is the goal now :)

Perfection is unattainable. Look for balance. You do not want to regress past previous levels. Gradual change is a good plan. You are wise enough to know yourself. Best wishes!

Thanks, man. And you are right, I am not looking for perfection. Balance is good.

Loosing weight is tough for foodie like you....Eating no grilled food, meat would be even tougher but for health and body you have to sacrifice, you need to follow very strict diet to achieve 15% target. BTW grilled veggie looks amazingly delicious....

Thanks for a very good post I like it

Thanks for a very good post I like it

You have my next BGE purchase. A cast iron grill.

It will help you melt the fat from the meat and your body!!!

The cast Iron grill is awesome man! Highly recommend it.

It's nice to see how you care for your health. Not everyone is willing to utilize his/her time for keeping the body in check. But you're doing it just fine. Your doctors recommended a great diet. Protein is always necessary for fat reduction and muscle build. So, these nice vegtable you're having can help you a lot :)
Wish you all the health sir @exyle :)

I expect your weight to be bigger than dis.... With all d food u eat... That's a good thing @exyle

I suppose so man!

What's wrong with the shirt? I happen to like it. My sons also wear these t-shirts, with shorts to work every day. Their office has a very casual dress code. Perhaps they perform better when comfortable? Food looks amazing as always.

Awesome post. I've been trying to get in shape as well and it can be tough to not eat unhealthy foods. Just focus on your goal when it gets tough and you can do it! Good luck!

Dammit, looking at those pictures I think I am 25% too. Oh noes!!

Hehe, perhaps flavoured waters! Might not be quite the same lol!

I love your manboobs but rooting for you to lose weight if you've made your mind to work it off.

I want to be a great dad, not a mom :)

That's a very very good intention!!

Good luck on your fat loss journey, just keep focused and am sure it will work. From your body pic,you are not too far gone and achieving 15% is achievable.BTW those grilled veggies look delicious :) Thank you for sharing

Just get a space suit with abs or a tech suit that shocks your body into shape. One of the outspost should have them. Honestly, you can have big moobs or boobs in a space suit all you want, it's sexy in a space suit actually. Your diet is looking real epic! Keep that up! Making me hungry while I'm Space Mining.

Hope you achieve your 15% fat goal :) Its hard but not impossible. Always be motivated :)

I am rooting for you!

oatmeal oatmeal oatmeal, and did you know you can not gain weight from proteins? Therefore a lot of body builders eat protein each two hours. Which is a must for gaining muscles.

Oatmeal cost the body more calories to burn then the oatmeal contains itself. This applies also for proteins. With the right dedication you will get there 100%

Following this.

goodluck

Stick to high protein meals about half an hour before and half an hour after your workouts. Skinless chicken, Tuna, and Peanut Butter are always good sources.
