Driving. Pure and Unadultrated Freedom

in life •  7 years ago

Born into a middle class Nigerian academic family, there was very little in terms of privileges thrown my way. There was no silver spoon, instead a wooden spoon lodged tightly in my mouth.

Inspite of this, growing up I always wanted to have my own car or at least learn how to drive, It might come as a suprise to many that I just recently learnt to drive. Infact it was just december 2015 that I for the first ride through town at the ripe age of 20.

Since then, I haven't looked back. Very few things can be romanticized the way of beauty of being behind your own wheels. The joy I feel cannot be overstated, the open roads, the traffic.

In essence, you are the captain of this large piece of machinery and with it you control your fate, that of your passenger

some of you might be thinking.. if you love it so much... why dont you do it for a living... touché my friends... touche

This is just a love letter to an activity I have come to enjoy alot recently. In conclusion. I'll leave you with the lyrics of my favorite driving song, fast car by Tracy Chapman

You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Any place is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
Me myself I got nothing to prove
