The Beauty Of Persistence

in life •  7 years ago

A popular old saying goes

The Patient Dog eats the fattest bone

But that doesn't tell the full story does it? It pays to be patient and bide your time. However, it is more virtuous to be Persistent and stubbornly resolved about what you want.

Persistence is defined as the property of being persistent. Lol! No surprise there. To be persistent, however is defined as

Obstinately refusing to give up or let go

When you find something you want with all your heart, you give it what you think is your best. **But sometimes your best is far from adequate the first time out **and then you might be led to feel like you don't deserve your heart's desire.

When you're lost and alone, and you're sinking like a stone, carry on.

Many a times we don't get what we want to first time we try, or maybe not the second, maybe not even the hundredth. And yeah, that is enough justification to give up. However, here's my philosophy

With every failure, you edge closer toward the perfect solution

We've all heard the fable about old Thomas Edison, and his invention of the Electric Bulb. It is said that he failed 999 times and only succeeded the 1000th time.

Now, Edison is considered a genius for his invention of the bulb. Is he really? If he failed 999 times? Does it deserve as much plaudits as he did for the science behind the invention? Probably not

For him to have tried 999 times means by the time he figured it out, his original scientific thought had long been binned and he was wildly iterating through different possible solutions to the problem at hand.

At the moment, heating up tungsten might seem an easy solution, but Edison had to figure out how to do it, and how best to do it

Persistence only works if you learn from your mistakes

Persistence is good, but I think One should not be blind to drawing a line also...there’s are times it’s best to let go and move on...some people might persist and yet not get it, and still excel in other areas...you get?

i heard or read somewhere once that you only truly ever fail once you give up. If you're persistent you'll always be able to obtain whatever it is as long as you NEVER give up - even if you go have to find 1000 different ways until you achieve it. And if you do give up, then it wasn't something you full-heartedly wanted.
