2 nights ago I was asleep and my credit card was charged a large amount of over $1500. I woke up the next morning to find the sms on my phone that indicated this.
It was a bit worrying to say the least. However, there were also messages from the bank that said these charges were reversed.
I also saw some missed calls from the bank's number late into the night which was probably to confirm if I made this transaction myself or not. Since I didn't pick the call and confirm/deny, they went ahead and reversed these charges.
So, in the morning I called up the customer care, worried if my credit limit was impact by this and after a brief chat I was relieved to find that they have indeed reversed these charges and I'm okay.
However, it was a bit alarming. I'm very careful with my transactions online or offline generally speaking. I've used the same credit card at point of sale machines in over 15 countries at the very least and never have I faced this issue.
I can't imagine people who've been defrauded like this and have lost their money for good. My card is currently blocked by the bank and I found this out unexpectedly as I was told my card is fine and I can transact again. Fortunately it should be working again in a day or two.
Whether you are in India or not, credit card fraud is common in many parts of the world. Banks have improved their security measures and I'm glad in this case HDFC Bank's system took care of this attempt to defraud me of my money.
It sucks to be robbed.
Have you ever faced any incident like this ever? What measures did you take to fix the situation or get your money back if it was stolen for good?

It only require your card number and security code to rob you. Perhaps, one of the store install camera near the cashier and the get your card info. However, those thief made a wrong withdraw. If they only get some few dollars, the bank doesn't alert. They take that few amount freely.

Hey @firepower, There is another fraud happen in the name of google. Recently I was also charged 30$ from my visa debit card. And I got a message "Thank you for using our service GOOGLE *PROXIMA BETA". And then my available balance.
Then I googled this "Proxima Beta" on internet. Then I know it is a fraud.
And its solution is you have to fill this google form for unauthorized transaction. Here is the link - https://payments.google.com/payments/unauthorizedtransactions
So friends, Be careful!!!
And thanx for sharing about "fraud attempt". This is a very big and serious issue in this modern world.

Left my credit card at a restaurant and realized it a few hours later so I checked the activity and what do you know someone went to town at a liquor store for around $300 and some other smaller charges. Called them up and after a quick call they reversed all of the fraudulent transactions I listed and turned off the card. No issue over refunding anything.

It's getting very common though thankfully it has never happened with me. We need to be very careful with our cards. Having a CC is very convenient and become a necessity sort of. It's good that it did not impact you.

In the beginning i had started with capital one and it seemed every few months therr was an issue with my card. But before i noticed it, capital one had already contacted me so there was no issue to worry about. I think credit card companies deal with this routinely and i am thankful they catch it before I do. If i caught it, i figure i would be on the phone for quite a while. Its part of everyday life and its something we need to live with.

Haha last week I was too lost 3000 RS by my silly mistake. As I am a student 3000 is a big amount. My uncle asked my account details. I sent everything correct except last digit. Totally gone to another account. I didn't showed up to Uncle as I sent wrong account number. 😌😒
