A few days ago I set out to learn about Steemians and how well they could describe themselves in 150 characters or less.
It was to be a fun way of seeing how well people knew themselves and understood their purpose in life and on here.
It was meant for everyone else but me.
7 days later, I realized I gave out 50 SBD just to discover my self.
I like to say that you can never start to work on a thing until you realize you need to.
Reading the various comments by the lovely Steemians who took time out to participate made it dawn on me that I had to tryout the exercise.
Who am I? What's my blog about? How can you get an idea of what to expect from me in less than 150 characters.
How I Did It
- At first I made a list of the various things I loved, liked, or was interested in. At this stage, it was important to not overthink anything but just let the ideas flow. I put down all I could.
storytelling, design, adventure, traveling, ideas, food, sleep, dreams
These were some of the things that readily came to my mind. As they were, they didn't make much sense and needed to be fleshed out while staying within the 150 characters limit.
150 characters! Not 150 words.
- So I set out to find words that could tell the whole story. How could I group these words? What do all these words have in common?
It took me a while but I figured that the word I was looking for was "creative". Many of the things I do/like could be grouped under the creative tag.
It was the biggest discovery since the first eureka moment.
After taking more time to further soul search and look over the words, I noticed that many of my blog posts on Steemit had been trying to advise people on varying topics.
It then hit me; I had been trying to sound smart all along.
It's funny because I don't always see myself as someone with a lot of advice to give out so seeing me doing this just meant I was trying to sound smart.
And so the description of @fisteganos in not more than 150 characters was born:
My posts are amateur attempts at sounding smart. I enjoy creative writing.
Breakthrough!
Yeah, I tried to insert some lazy humor as a part of the message I am/was trying to pass across.
Conclusion
It took a moment of being inquisitive (prying into other people's business) to discover myself.
It was never planned but I've found out that my posts have had a lot more purpose and direction since then.
What are your thoughts on self discovery?
If you, by any means, enjoyed this amateur attempt at sounding smart, consider upvoting and resteeming. You can also follow me for more.
I think this is great. It is best if we can discover more about who we are, rather than what we think we should or want to be. It may change over time, but to "know thyself" is a great first step. Then our writing and work flows from that space.
