ROADTRIP TO COLONIA

A DIFFERENT PLACE

One of the points with the greatest history in Uruguay, with small jewels that seem to have been engraved over time, today I will talk a little about the magic of this place

WALKING ON OUR WAY

Many stories go back to this place, and many of them involve a before and after in the history of my country. Located on the south coast, with coasts on the Rio de la Plata, and the city of Buenos Aires as a neighbor, this department called Colonia still retains a lot of colonial aesthetics, as its name says so, and it seems that people and lifestyle have been matched perfectly.

7:00 am

That was the hour that on the clock when I took that photograph, that beyond showing us the beauty of the field, was indicating to us the beginning of the trip and a sky that threatened to wet our adventure.
Approximately about three hours of road trip, a bit boring, the roads are not the best, and at times the monotony make one wonder if he is not going around in circles.
We had two pit stops on the route from which we had to make the most of it, the first half-hour journey to return to a coffee, and continue with more energy, and the next one was a little further, almost About 30km before arriving at the entrance of Cologne, a small bar with a lot of history where we planned to take something from past, unfortunately this second option was not going to be available.

With cobblestone streets, cars that seem to have been there since before the roads were created, and with pieces of art like the one seen above.
Many houses transformed into restaurants, tea houses, and shops that we are not used to frequent, a small stall that sells school supplies, old magazines, table games, and an endless number of more goodies, made of the moment something totally detached from reality.
An aroma of spanish paella was leading us to where we would spend the next two hours living a life of kings, where food abounds and good pleasures are the order of the day. Homemade cooking, prepared at the time and in sight of all, accompanied with a glass of tanat wine, a strain of our own country, with an intense flavor and a soft retro taste seem to end the excellent evening.

DESDE LO ALTO

Almost past two o'clock in the afternoon we started a walk through the town, with an easy surface to travel but with many foreign people traveling the corners of this wonderful pearl.
A control tower, a checkpoint for that era, nowadays a lookout that shows the simplicity that this city knows to have, a lot of green, small houses, and a port that seems to be made for a quantity of boats smaller than the fingers of a hand.
All this added to the warmth of the people, and to the kindness of those people who have cultivated values that here seem not to grow, make all this repercuta in a very special way within each of its visitors.

IS HARD TO SAY GOODBYE

At four o'clock in the afternoon, it was time to embark on the retreat, a last walk in the harbor, a last coffee in an incredible house, where one seems to be immersed in the books of a library that has devoured all the walls there. With a full belly and happy heart is how the day must end, and let me tell you that here in Cologne, those two conditions are very easy to achieve.
A small place, with nice people, with good food, and a sight to see, all this has been combined with the perfect measures, and have made once again that these memories are the fuel to return to give me a return here.
