The corner of our property is this little pool that is about 2 feet deep under and around the "waterfall". In the pool right where the main turbulent flow is there is a little pedestal rock that you can sit on and the water flows right into your lap or back. The creek originates on the mountain 13 miles away but in late summer the upper portion dries up and our lowest section gets fed by an artisian spring on our neighbor's property.
This year we seem to have a bit more sand build up than normal so I am going to remove a few rocks to increase the flow on one side to eliminate the swirl that drops sand. There are a few trees that will also be getting removed which will help immensely as well. Winter has a way of moving things around.
We feel very fortunate to have our creek and we are in the water every hot day. The shade and the persistent breeze that eminates from the tunnel help keep it nice and cool, even when it nears 100F. I figured the bulk of the country would do well at least having images of a cool environment to dream of during this heat.
Have you ever taken a gold pan down there to check around the rocks for gold flakes?

I've been dying to setup some riffles to start shoveling all the sand onto that is filling the pool. With the layout of the area I am pretty sure if there is any gold it would be down under the pile of sand in the pool. I haven't found much black sand but we are near-ish to placer deposits to our north and uranium mines near the source of the creek.

It would be pretty interesting to go through that sand with a sluice and see what comes up in the riffles... :-)
