A guy delivers a very powerful message on Facebook with a video of him cutting the barrel of his automatic rifle rendering it useless. He later on posted a photo of the same gun cut in two pieces using the hashtag oneless.

This is the link to his moving video. Been seen over 20M, needless to say it went viral.

What made this self proclaimed gun lover with a 'second amendment' tattooed on his arm do a complete turn around? After the the Florida shooting, killing 17 people. Mostly teenagers barely hitting adulthood.

One of his reasons were that he doesn't want to see his kids looking down the barrel of a gun one day. He ended the video with the word 'one less'.

That's a staggering amount. When you add how many deaths in the U.S, it works out that they have the 2nd most deaths in the world in school shootings. Just go through the lists in here.
As you scroll down to the bottom of the list, you will see United States in almost every line. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Why does US have the most school shootings? Is the government waiting for a massacre where 100 lives are lost because 44 is not high enough number in one shooting incident before making a drastic move?
Solution?
It's a question that everyone want answered as President Trump push for more background checks on gun buyers and bans on devices that shoots hundred rounds a minute.[source]
Is this the right solution or it's just a band aid.
Background checks? Anyone can lose their shit. Even a sane teenager with no records can go on a rampage.
Mental disability check? How do you know someone is sane or insane? I doubt they will even go on record to declare that they are crazy. Sometimes the system don't listen.
Ban on automatic rifles? A pistol can't kill 100 people? One death makes it OK?
I do not think this will solve U.S.'s reoccurring school shootings. A drastic change needs to be on the agenda and I think a legislation banning any type of guns should be approve.
Will banning guns in the US reduce or even stop school shootings? Open discussion.
Banning firearms is not going to solve anything.
In fact it shall probably put the average person who knows how to use a firearm at a disadvantage, because the black market shall always ensure that those who need firearms for the wrong reasons get them.
Introducing laws that use common logic, such as regular background checks, physical and psychiatric examinations along with the proper educational requirements for handling a firearm are = COMMON SENSE AND LOGIC.
Likewise, one thing that I have learned in Europe is that Hunters as such, can not become "hunters" overnight, we all had to go to courses and work our way up to the right of getting a "Diploma" which confirms that we have all learned the necessary things so as to preserve nature and not ruin it. Not to mention that "gun laws" as many call them are extremely strict.
Everything from background checks to a full physical and psychiatric examination. All on a regular basis. No "lifetime" of owning a firearm.
Again, what I have written here is based upon various experiences and unfortunately like with any tool of any trade out there, a firearm is dangerous in the hands of the wrong person.
I am convinced that if you were to look up the number of deaths by drunk drivers or the number of stabbings that it would shock everyone here reading your post.
Again, there does need to be more responsibility from all sides of this topic.
I believe that many people on all sides of this story fail to accept the responsibilities that they have as such. What I mean by this is that too many people do not want to be responsible for the results of any changes that bring about common sense, logical responsibilities.
I dare say that no person on this earth can argue the fact that any "gun owner" should be physically fit including a psych exam in that too.
Likewise, that every "gun owner" should be certified from the relevant authorities as having completed all the educational necessities to be able to handle and maintain a firearm.
Those that oppose firearms again need to understand that these tools of many trades, from security, hunting to law enforcement are tools in the right hands and not a threat to anyone.
Personal opinions and wishes may be one thing, however common sense and logic need to prevail.

I like your argument but the reality is even a sane person can just lose it anytime. I am a very calm person but when things get heated up, things go flying. Even with regular exams, criminal checks, it will not deter a teenager in america who just had enough getting bullied at school. Or maybe they just play too much CS GO or Battlefield and would like to practice it in RL (real life for the oldies).
Maybe Americans are just desensitize from violence, who knows. I mean, in Philippines, anyone can own a gun. No background checks, psych tests, just pay. Every time we go back to Philippines, my cousin carries a 45 wherever we go, except places where it's prohibited though. He just pays for the licence to carry. No checks, he lives in Australia. Yet school shootings are very rare.
Maybe it's not the law that's the problem. Maybe it's the society. Bad parenting perhaps? At least with total weapon banning, it will make it harder to access for these rebellious, misguided kids. I wouldn't want my innocent child going to school scared for their life. It's the norm now in America that kids go to school knowing that they might not come back home.
It's just so shocking to see the amount of school shooting incidence in America compared to other countries.

Shocking to say the least.
Again, when laws are being discussed, logic and common sense have to prevail.
That is my one and only stand point on this which should apply in every society.
As far as access to weapons, anyone can buy an illegal firearm on the black market anywhere in this world, maybe not as easily as in some places where they are readily available on the market, but unfortunately criminals shall always trade with prohibited goods no matter what society it may be. This again is a fact of life.
Parents are not always to blame, parents can do everything "right" and then the peer group pressure and social aspects that surround them could play a role that no parent on this earth can control.
Again, another fact of life, no matter what society we are talking about.
I do sincerely cohere to your emotions, however when it concerns laws and the policy making processes, I again have the above mentioned stance, which must take into consideration everything that you are saying, yet again be in line with reality, with the foundations that are, I shall say gain, "common sense" and "logic".

Well whatever they propose as a solution it better work, as whatever they r doing or not doing is not working.
I dare say that there will be more horrific incidences if no drastic measures are put in place.

I hear you on that one.
Personally I don't understand why anyone would need a fully automatic weapon at home for anything.
i.e. Someone may be a member of a "gun club", sure, no problem. Have the military/fully auto weapons kept in a safe at the local police station, pay monthly fees for storing it and that is that. No access to it unless there is an event going on at the gun club that has been authorized by that police department.
Just one idea that may sound "drastic" to some, yet has more logic behind it than 90% of the laws out there!

If someone wants to harm anyone they will do it regardless if they have a weapon or not, yes it will facilitate them to commit the crime but does that mean after banning guns they have to ban the next lethal weapon such as a hunting bow and then what? The issue is somewhere else, the school system should teach us emocional intelligence and how to use our brains. Good post, gun control is a good topic

If antone wants to hurt someone they will. This is true. Maybe gun control isnt the issue. School environment could be the culprit. Might even be the entire society. The shocking thing is that my friends and family are not surprised whenever we hear another school shooting in the US. Its being the norm in America.

I believe americans will never give up on their guns, sadly, so they have to at least try and control them more. School shootings do not happen in countries with strict gun control laws so there must be something to it. Also I believe there is something deeply wrong in the american culture, it's probably a lot of things so I can't pinpoint it exactly...
Plus you can add to it that some of the shootings are reported in a weird way and have all sort of conspiracy theories attached to them (sandy hooks, etc) and most of the time are used by the media to push politcal agenda or sweep other issues under the rug.

You might have a point with the culture theory. Too many games, violent shows/movies may have desensitized the public. Who knows.

I don't think it's the movie or games. I played gta all my life since I was like 10 and never thought of shooting up my friends... I hope someone will figure it out soon and stop this madness somehow..

Thanks for sharing this post. Good on him. As he said, there is no solution, there will always be someone who will want to kill and will manage to do so, but this is one less gun.

A pistol can't really kill 100 people. It takes a lot longer, and preventative measure (ie. hero's) can take place in the meantime.
automatic weapons don't give anybody any chance to do anything.

A loss of a single life should not be ok at all. The point of banning just auto rifles baffles me.

the theory behind it is that a loss of 99 lives is better than a loss of 100 lives.
If you want to extend it and ban all guns full stop, then by all means you won't get any disagreement from me.
