I was in my teens when I understood this. The only difference is that now, at 46, my individualist streak also comes with great wisdom and confidence and even a sense of pity for those who don't realize how they, as individuals, could flourish if they'd just leave the crowd behind.

Agreed! I have tried realllly hard to raise my children to march to the beat of their own drum! So far, so good :)
