Shame on American Airlines...

They tell you that "The world's greatest flyers fly American", and it might be true, but what they don't tell you is that they're a bunch of nits with their complimentary snacks and beverages.

It looks harmless enough, but the skies would be more refreshed if they gave us the full can.

On JetBlue on the way down to Florida, besides having the iconic seat-back TV sets to watch, they handed us a full can of soda.

(Actually I didn't even ask for a drink.. @kitzchris ordered a ginger ale, and she showed up with two of them. We kept it since it was closed and we could just stick it in a bag -- usually I prefer to dehydrate and not have to use the restroom on the flight, if it's not a really short one.)

Then they came by with an assortment of snacks and made sure that you know you can take more than one thing.

On American, they open a can of soda and pour some of it into a cup, and then they ask you if you want pretzels or cookies.

Psshh.

It seems like such a hassle and stress on the staff to ask them to pour everyone's soda. All to save, what, 1/4 of a can each time?

Obviously it adds up repeated over every customer all the time. But so do all the smiles over at JetBlue.

I could see not doing complimentary drink and snack. That seems totally decent (it really is kind of awkward how much of a process it is just to distribute a dinky little snack to us). I'll pay a dollar less for a ticket and have no snack, sure. But dare I say, no more half-measures American Airlines. If you're gonna hand out drinks, just give us the can.

This is the view on @kitzchris 's side:

We actually made the same order: ginger ale and pretzels.

Right now we're delayed for our connecting flight. (Having a connection is why I elected to drink on the flight -- the first leg was just 90 minutes.) But it's ok, I was able to eat a burrito and watch the great Tom Brady add another feather to his cap, and now I'm watching Eagles vs. Vikings.

Pouring someone's drink is so not cool unless you are at bar/party.

It is surprising American airlines can be so penny pinching.

I know right, damn penny pinchers.. it seems like one of those things that's strictly bad, like what they lose in having their employee spend the time pouring it seems worse than the cost of the soda, or close to it.

I guess once they're up there they don't have much else to do, but still, you probably just get happier staff if they're less bogged down with that chore.

Shame on American Airlines!

Lol. Why bother to give any in the first place? Should have just said there isn't any soda left. From the picture that cup ain't even half-full! The world's greatest misers fly American!

to be fair, I had drank some at that point! But ya, it wasn't very full in the first place. I think we lost a little because we ordered the same drink. So the flight attendant person had a can and kind of poured it back and forth between the two cups and stopped when the can was empty, but neither cup was as full as he would have poured it if he was just pouring for one.

Step up your game, American.

I have no idea what's happening here. You didn't give me anything. Followed anyway.

Great article, really funny :-) One time I couldn't even get free water. It was a 5 hour flight and I don't own a credit card so I couldn't buy any. After a while they gave me a hot cup of water with ice cubes...

hehe, it's a dog eat dog world once you leave the ground I guess

I usually don't have a CC either and know what it's like to have those hassles occasionally

Wasn't American the one that dragged that innocent man out of the airplane screaming?

not sure! It wouldn't surprise me. It felt like a dark and uncaring place :p

travels increase our out knowledge..
