I think it's a nice gesture when customer support auto-sends you that email to confirm that they received it.
BUT, at the same time, if I don't receive an email like that, there's never any part of me that's sitting there thinking "hmm, I wonder if they got it". I'd just assume that they don't do the confirmation thing.
So it almost doesn't really matter. If somehow there was a way to be alerted that they didn't receive it and won't be answering, that'd be a better thing to know.
It's kind of just wasted communication really.
