Friends sign a rental contract for a "quiet" apartment only to have construction materials turn up THE NEXT DAY

Myself and basically everyone else that lives here in Vietnam complain endlessly about the construction noise. We celebrate inclement weather because it forces the sites to shut down and shut the hell up for a few hours. We desperately search for parts of the city that has condos but no construction only to realize that there really isn't such a thing unless you live in a part of town where it is impossible to get a taxi because it is so isolated that nobody wants to go there.

Well a really nice friend of mine and his wife are regular visitors to Da Nang. They live 3 months here, and then 3 months in Thailand over and over again. They were elated when we met up about how they found a place where all the construction projects that could possibly done in the area already have been done and they were so excited about it.

I was so excited about it that I planned my walk on one of my days to go and check out the area. When I got there, I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw what was going on across the damn street from the place he literally JUST moved into.

Yesterday or at most 2 days ago, there was a wall there and now today you can see the wall has been reduced to rubble in the background and while I was walking by they were dropping off a huge amount of cement dust that will be mixed with that sand and the rocks. Guess what? This is going to be a massive construction project!

I feel bad for my friend because he actually paid a premium to be in the building that is on the opposite corner specifically because there was no construction.

Also, and this comes from years of experience of living here, they are going to get started on this very quickly and soon because they didn't even bother to cover the sand when we are in a time of year where rain is about to start coming on a regular basis. They want to use that sand before the rain comes because wet sand is much harder to deal with.

The little covered area up front there with the chairs will be where the workers get out of the sun for a bit and drink water.

I would imagine that in just a few days' time, if even that long, that this "quiet" part of town that my friends found is going to be just as loud as anywhere else.

Although this isn't directly related because it is quite far from my friends' place I noticed them putting this finishing touches on this rather stupid building. Those clear panels on the front, well they are basically lightweight shingles. They will offer very little to anything as far as insulation is concerned and when the monsoon/ typhoon season hits, those are going to get thrown off of that thing like playing cards. I am looking forward to seeing this happen.

I just don't understand some people's decisions. This is just stupid.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you are living in a condo or house in Da Nang and you see a large pile of sand turn up nearby... you should probably get started on finding a new place to live because it is going to be very noisy, very soon.
